2009 I'll give you, Stage 1 was nothing to do with a crosswind and neither was the cobble stage, say how did Cadel cope with the cobble stage last year?

finished 1st group with Fabian, andy, thor and Ryder (think that was the group)

Thomas was in that group too, I forgot that Evans was in the 1st group, but that would explain why he held the yellow jersey several days later.

Are they drunk? That's last 400m is the strangest "straight" line I've ever seen. :D

Can we please just stick to stage 5 in this thread.

It will be very confusing for people if you start talking about uphill finish to the stage and posting profiles for other stages, especially those who cant figure out your talking about stage 8, 9 whatever. Just start a stage 8 thread already

I am interested in the 2nd/3rd tier sprinters today, who will likely finish best out of...

Bonnet

Engoulvent

Turgot

Keen to here your thoughts as this will help my fantasy cycling team!

Hinault will. Otherwise, based on the only other sprint stage, Engoulvent.

It's going to be a fun one. I predict at least one GC rider will lose more than a minute today. Who will it be? Basso? Samu? Contador again?

Most of it is tailwind

the direction is the same direction they are riding (you can see it on the mini map of the stage route).. so there might be a bit crosswind but most of it is tailwind

Ideal would be if the wind is tail-crosswind. So most of it in the tail and a bit on the side. Then you can create great echelons

There's definately a chance, especially in the last part of the stage when they ride along the coast. But like I said with these wind predictions it looks hard

Isn't there long section where they travel south eastwards midway through the stage, in which case there will be a pure crosswind for a significant part of the stage?

Yeah, it looks like between 80 and 120 km will be pure side on to the wind. Tailwinds otherwise.

get a quick change in direction and smash there goes the group - be a nervous day and thats when mistakes happen even if the wind does nothing

Yes but I'm not certain how exposed that section is? Shame the wind isn't from the North East.

Only trouble is... I've had a quick look on google maps and it looks quite sheltered on that road, continuous development with housing and hedges etc.. Hope I'm wrong but I don't think a wind from the South-West is going to do much here.

If it was from the north east it would be a head wind.

Haha, probably true.

God I hope so. The fact that the forescast predicts a tailwind for most of the finale may catch some teams out though Rabobank DS hinted that the team may try something today.
