Bardet’s time seems surprisingly good relative to some of the other GC candidates, and Ayuso in excellent position for the overall. And I always thought Simon was the better TT-er of the Yates? Or does he just throw in random great TT performances interspersed by average ones? I guess a flat, short prologue would never be an optimal course for either of them.

Wind possibly picked up a bit later (lots of disapointing performances in last quarter) and Bardet & the UAE guys started in the first half.

They've been TT monsters for ages. Often won the Worlds TTT until they stopped it a couple of years ago. Niki Tersptra has three gold medals!

Would be so annoying if Fausto ends up wasting energy to work for Cerny who think he is suddenly a GC rider

With this prologue I think Bardet is the main favourite. The mountain stage is really hard, if he is as at the begining of the Giro or the alps at le Tour he is going to get this race.

Well, I did predict that with Vauquelin but he certainly had a stinker today.

Bardet has not impressed me in any mountain stage so far this year. And racing always in a very passive way. The exception might have been his Mur de Huy attack but we couldn't see the outcome.

Maybe now he will stop using a bike that is half a kilogram heavier than the climbing model that Scott has on offer. With every team trying to get every advantage possible, it's curious how DSM insist in using the aero model even in mountain stages. Maybe that's the only way Scott has of selling it, because that bike is ugly af.

Here we dont have Vingegard or Pogacar. It is true that Ayuso did a very good ITT...and you never knows, but it would be normal that he wanst at his best yet at the Mountain finish..wich is really hard, is a similar climb to the Madeleine.

any idea what to expect today? The big climb is basically 10k at almost 8%, just with a little decent in the middle. So it should be possible to drop most of the sprinters - but will anyone be interested to push on for 100k?

I think so too. DSM had a couple covid cases at/after Itzulia, and there were plenty of others (Gaudu, Higuita, Landa etc.) reported to be sick after it as well.

The weather there was surprisingly good this year, so covid could very well be the reason.
