Thanks...I guess that was a rumor I heard early on when things weren't "clear" yet.

He is 23. And yes, he can.

Dayer is two years younger than Nairo, which makes him 23. As far as talent goes, Dayer is a stud, but he'll never win a grand tour. But unlike someone like Juraj Sagan, Dayer isn't on the team because his surname is Quintana. He can win his races, as he has shown in 2014, when he had an amazing win on the Kitzbüheler Horn.

Dayer has a lot of potential, but his 2015 season was awful with a lot of crashes. He could never live up with the expectations. A bit like promising Belgian talent Louis Vervaeke last season.

Well done policeman Quintana! his first of many GC wins.

and Kudos to Sepulveda (still a lot to learn but great race) and Koshevoy (IMO the revelation of the race)

Yep. Exactly...that's always embarrassing when two can't take out one.
All three are from Boyaca, no doubt they made a deal. Superman can have to stage, Dayer the GC.

Agree. Nairo wasn't giving anything like 100% effort in the final few hundred metres. Just looking behind himself and shepherding Dayer.
Please don't let them become like the Schlecks. That would be stupid.
They won't. Nairo's won plenty at this point, Dayer's never won a stage race. Dayer won't get to lead more than a couple of races all season, Nairo will be leader at practically everything he enters. It makes sense for Nairo to help his brother here; much as it may be a nice race to have winning the Tour de San Luís does jack for Nairo's palmarès; he's already won a Giro, Tirreno-Adriatico and País Vasco at a higher level than this. Winning this race does a lot for Dayer's.

Ey, I was a lil disappointed by Dayer Q last year, so glad to see him doing well. Hoping he can climb with the 10-15 best tomorrow! :)

He could do that and a little bit more! Holy ***, I did not see this coming after his bad last season. Super by Nairito to help Dayer to get his first stage race and its not like a small one with relatively big names contending. Lets hope he can build on this! If he shows promise in the spring, I could see him getting the last spot on the Tour-squad, i bet Nairo would love that too.

LF: Its a completely different situation. Dayer isnt as talented as Frank and will never be able to contend for the Tour-win, let alone podium, and Nairo knows this is the first race of the season which only purpose is to get a good start on the season. And what better than seeing your littlebrother winning after a bad 2nd season!

Bit early for these alarm calls isn't it?
I doubt Dayer will reach the top levels in a GT so it's not needed for Nairo to wait for him in the TdF.
Here Dayer could win his first GC and Nairo couldn't anymore. So Nairo assisted his teammate to winning the GC. If it wasn't his brother, but another teammate he would've done the same most likely.

edit: I see I've just pointed out something 2 others allready did before me.

Yes but not just this. At the TDF, Nairo lost, possibly because he wasn't aggressive enough. Then after the race he said he felt he didn't need to be more aggressive. If I had just lost a race by 1 minute, and had only attacked in the final weekend, I'd be kicking myself. It all reminds me very much of Andy. Hopefully Nairo doesn't become an eternal second.

But unlike someone like Juraj Sagan, Dayer isn't on the team because his surname is Quintana.

It's true that he has the level of a WT rider, but obviously he is on the team because he's a Quintana. Nairo recommended him. Without Nairo, he'd still be in Colombia ;)

He wouldn't, because he was already racing in Europe with Lizarte.

Got me. Did he have results there?

Well, I see it was only in 2013 he came to Europe? Nairo was already racing in Europe by then, so the point still stands.

Why did any one expect big guns from the likes of Nairo, Nibali, Maika?
It's still the off season for these guys.
If they shone now - how are they going to win credibly in the European spring/summer?

Plus how well is all the S.America talent regulated? (→clinic)
- the locals don't even have enough money to do a decent broadcast on TV.

I actually think that Nairo, Nibali and Majka all did OK yesterday, especially Nairo. Nibali did much, much better than 2 stages beforehand and Majka did reasonably well against loads of guys like Dayer and Sepulveda who have basically peaked for this race.

disagree about Sepulveda, he's in great form but not peak condition, he'll be peaking for Paris-Nice and Tour

Apparently Sepulveda is still 2kg over his peak shape weight.

Probably, but after winning on the Kitzbüheler Horn in 2014 he already deserved a contract with a decent team.

I'm looking forward to see if Dayer can add some consistency to his very decent climbing level as that would make him a very good mountain domestique. I'm confident Movistar can do it, they did it already with Anacona who was very solid all through 2015.

Anacona and D Quintana could potentially be Nairo's Columbian climb core for the next many years in the Tour!

How did that happen? Both guys are riding for the Italian national team. :D
Is Mareczko's sprint position still as crazy as it used to be?
