Ion was Movistar designated leader for the 2015 Giro. But I understand nobody remembers he did a TJ.

Also for GC back then? Anyway he is not the same rider nowadays I'd say.

No he wasn't. Benat Intxausti was the guy Unzue expected to do best at that Giro. Ion and Amador were 2nd or 3rd options.

I remember being really angry that Basso didn't win that day.
But yeah, Pozzovivo just cannot sprint. The way his front wheel was zigzagging in the sprint today, I'm almost guessing he covered a bigger distance than the riders ahead of him

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the climbing level of Špilak. He has had a strange year. Promising T-A, then bad at Pais Vasco and Romandie, now good again. Too bad his TT is not what it used to be. It's hard to believe in 2015 when he won TdSuisse, he was 2nd on a 40K ITT and lost only 18s to Dumoulin. Now I'm not even sure he can beat Pozzovivo in the ITT on the last day.

Forgot TJ was doing dom dutys - my bet , Pozzovivo, gave it a go. Tommy D's been on the cocktail circuit since the big Giro win I think.

I forgot to mention, what a fantastic win for Warbasse. It meant so much to him. So emotional in the interview after the stage. Really really happy he succeeded.

He was sick at the beginning. So it is better for him just to focus on recuperation and just putting some miles more than stage wins.

Got swallowed by the peloton after being in a break for most of the race. Valverde, the speediest climbers, had no problem keeping the chasing peloton behind him.

Poor guy. Worst sprinter ever? Must be his mini-size.

That was a great win for Warbasse. It's pretty nice to take your first pro win by soloing home in the Swiss Alps.

It's also very good for Aquablue. They've had a slightly odd season - lots of invites, almost always making themselves visible, lots of riders doing well... but no wins before this and their actual leaders (Nordhaug, Denifil) have been MIA. A stage of Suisse is probably the biggest thing won by a PCT team so far this year.

Pozzovivo only lost 2 secs in the last 150 meters, not 4 secs.

How are they judging these time gaps? It sometimes think they can be a bit unfair.

His TT is even worse. He looks like the postman riding past with his knees sticking out. A shame really because he climbed really well in the Giro. Needed a good TT coach. Quintana looks like Wiggins next to Pozzo !

Fair enough, I think that Vuelta ITT was the exception that proved the rule. I probably wouldn't have remembered it had the result not been so outlandish :surprised:

It's odd because Pozzo is actually quite "punchy". He has a great acceleration on steeper gradients he can hold for 400-500m and is a great attacker who can easily get away from a group as witnessed yesterday but his sprint his terrible.

Do you use some other muscles/another technique in a sprint and in a punchy late attack? Some punchy riders like Martin, Valverde, Purito and Alaphilippe are also fast in a flat sprint.

I don't really know.
The opposite of Pozzovivo was someone like Basso, he had no punch, but for a gc contender he had a decent sprint.
