I don't know if there have been any route changes since, but my recollection was that at the time the route was announced, many months ago, it was considered perfect (deliberately so?) for Roglic and his completion of the full set of major one week races.

So same route next year?

From the SQS press release about their Tour de Suisse team- does ilmaestro write these?
Our seven-man team for the race held between 9-16 June will consist of Ayco Bastiaens, Gil Gelders, former Belgian Champion Yves Lampaert, William Junior Lecerf, Fausto Masnada – who just last month won the KOM classification at the Quatre Jours de Dunkerque – Louis Vervaeke and Jordi Warlop.

That would require him to be able to spell rider names. Maybe he bribed their communications guy, though.

I thought there was gonna be a bunch of misspelled names, but this was even funnier.

It is obvious who should be the leader, the team themselves are making it clear who is the star rider and that he is on good form

That was predictable with when Nufenen usually opens and how snowy it‘s been up there this year. Let’s hope that Furka will get opened in time.

It's going to be a very cold week. Temperatures are around 10 degrees colder than normal at this time of the year. And it will rain the whole week.

Right, I know a lot of this is over-analysing.
I had a look at Bahrain's lineup from last year, and compared it to what the - six remaining - riders are scheduled for this year.
Miholjevic and Price-Pejtersen are riding here.
Arndt and Bilbao appear to be scheduled for Slovenia. (Same for Maciejuk, though he's riding for Bora now)
Tiberi is recovering after the Giro and beginning of Dauphine.

Now, while some of it is obviously purely practical - Tiberi needing to take some time off - I wonder how much of the scheduling was done in order to help the riders best find closure after last year's tragedy.
Some riders might need to go back to Suisse, while others just can't.

The first sentence in your post is in all likelihood your answer.

I just can't imagine team management not even a little bit taking riders' needs to deal with the tragedy even the slightest bit into consideration.
Of course, the best thing would be if everyone has already gotten the needed closure, and is able to race, wherever they need to race, without lingering in the past.

I'm sure there's a reason why Bilbao has chosen to make his Tour of Slovenia debut this year.
