i know it's freaking easy to make fun of wiggins.still,if you check his performances from the mountains of le tour 2009,that's not laughable, check verbier fuccin insane wattage a la armstrong in his best days.so if he'll come close in power, endurance and recovery compared to 2009,the brit can break the top 5 yet again.it's not something i will bet against.

on a whole the mountains were jokes. A real course, with multiple testing stages would have seen him out the back.

---

Anyway the 09 tour wasn't soft peddaled.
The course was just designed poorly, and discouraged caranage in the mountains. It very much suited the TT / climb hang on riders.

Wiggans will no way challange for a top 5 spot on this course.

It seems like VDB haters need to find a new argument now.
Van den Broeck is one of my favourite riders and he got a very nice win but let's not get too carried away here.

I don't hate. I laugh.

And now the laughing stops. It's always mucho impressive when a guy gets his first victory aged 28 after 7 seasons in professional cycling.

Yes he is aged 28.
Guess who else was 28 when he won his first Tour de France, and later won 6 more.

1. It was a valid argument up to this point so save it.

2. Nobody in here said anything about hating Jurgen so stop putting words in people's mouths.

3. Jurgen deserved this win after 7 years of pro cycling. Enjoy it instead of being an *ss.

Armstrong had won the Worlds and a Tour stage when he was 22, among other things, so I don't know whether that is an appropriate comparison.

Yes, after today VDB2 is the red hot favourite for victory in the Tour...

i am happy for VdB because it is always sad to see a pro rider with no pro wins. but that doesn't change a lot

Not red hot, but an underdog surely.

Also Andy is not the most stable person ever, and Contador may be banned, so he has a decent chance now, doesn`t he?

What better indication then a cat2 finish.

Not trying to belittle his win, it was great, but this changes little.

It puts pressure off VDB. That changes a few things in rider`s head, and that is important.

Nice win, very glad and very impressed.

I think it's game over for Basso at his chance at the Tour. And I hope VDB2 didn't peak too early. But his first professional win is more important than a fifth at the Tour without stage wins I guess.

settle pettle.

We are a very long time away from the tour's first climb.
Basso has zero ambitions here, he said it was just about the sensations, you don't have to be at the front of the peleton for that.

Basso has been completely crappy and his crash seems to be responsible for it. I'm not expecting much out of him. You can have zero ambitions here, but it's clear he's not hiding form, he doesn't have form right now.

The only thing I see here are arguments based on assumptions. That isn't really a solid foundation to sustain an opinion. Nice try though.

Thank you Ivan.

you assume to much, you think one rider must follow the same norm as another?
Basso said he wasn't gonna do anything here, you claiming things make this no less true.

That's exactly what he said himself before the Dauphine. So there is nothing new to read here people. Please move on.

I have to admit, JvdB was impressive here. Not just strong, but he also got the timing right. And sure, this does change my opinion of him a bit.

I guess you're joking El Pistolet?

Because I don't see how a win in the Dauphiné compares to a fifth place in the TdF. VDB would never have been such a "well known" rider if he didn't end 5th in the Tour last year. Taking 5 stages in the Dauphiné wouldn't have gotten him that kind of attention. People took him very serious because of that 5th place, despite him having no wins.

I mean if he peaked too early he'll probably win this whole Dauphiné :p Although time trial will perhaps make sure that never happens.

I think winning the overall at Dauphiné with stage win would be pretty sweet yeah. And I'd personally rate it higher than just a fifth at the Tour. But of course I really hope he does well at both and there's no reason why that isn't the case.

Be realistic, he lost time in the last Km. Wait for the real mountains to come later this weekend.
