Johan Derksen happened.

Spine Concept said:
Indeed. He called Gesink a wimp on the daily cycling tv show ''Tour Du Jour'' and basically denigrated Dutch cycling in general. Gesink replied that he thought Derksen was a wimp himself and that he ought to hit the deck at 70km/h to see how it feels like. Derksen resumed by saying that Gesink cannot deal properly with criticism and called him a 2nd rate cyclist.

Thanks for the info.

Johan - 'I also know everything all the time and I will brutally tell you how it is'. To paraphrase him, he is an utter idiot.

Nederland - hoofd - maaiveld

Persons not living up to irrational levels of greatness need to be stomped back into mucky clay

But Derksen is full of bs. He said that the Dutch riders are nowhere on international level which is ofcourse total bs.

AS if they haven't done anything the last few years? Derksen only follows the Tour and has no idea what he is saying.

My thoughts exactly, what is he doing at a cycling tv programme anyway? Genee couldn't do a show without him or something? A bit too much bromance going on there. Last time they even managed to squeeze some football news during a cycling tv show, seriously? That's kind of disrespectful, no?

Well, in this Tour Gesink does look like a wimp to me yeah.

Find it hard to believe one crash did all this... Especially since he didn't break anything, no cracks anywhere, etc

He ought to keep his mouth shut more often than not. From what I heard he used to be passed by mailmen en route to their deliveries when riding his bike. :D Though I am not sure I should underestimate those mailmen. :p

I think it's well known by now that I am not too big on the way he has been riding this tour either. D_T and I already had a discussion in this regard in a different thread. I mean, finishing after Cavendish yesterday made me wanna pull my hairs out lol. I have my views on him this season, however, I do not think he's a wimp. History proves this, otherwise he would have gone home after his crash at the Vuelta in 09, for one. According to him, he's just letting it go every day in order to save as much energy as possible to go for a stage win in the Alps. It will be a tall order though because he is not the ideal rider to be in a breakaway, the dynamics in such a group does not suit him, he's a diesel. Attacking from the group of favorites will not be easy either since everything hangs upon these last mountain stages so he won't pull away easily. We'll see how it unravels for Gesink. God knows he needs a good result for the morale. Godspeed.

guess you have never had a back injury. believe me riding with it is very difficult, and makes recovery pretty impossible when you aggreviate it everyday by riding 200km.

Known saying in the medical worlds, often it is better to break something than to bruise...
You can develop serious back and hip problems by keep going (or in our world, working) with an injured back or hip.

Ergo: you underestimate the seriousness of the injuries.
Did you see what happened to Klöden, who also broke nothing? He had to abandon with lower back pain. Gesink is still riding with it.

I have 6 vertabras in my back, while normally you only have 5. It caused me immense pain(I could barely walk or stand up for a month), but thank god that's over now.

I don't believe much in Gesink's back problems. If he really has them why bother riding the Tour out. I just think he found an excuse and is happy with that. Why skip the Vuelta as well? Like I said, everything he did this season made absolutely no sense at all.

Knowing this you ought to sympathize with Gesink's injury. I cannot say 100% how serious it is though, so I understand your dubiousness. He already said why he's riding out the tour though, what you do with his statement in that regard is for you to decide.

VDB2 is already back on the rollers.

Good news, hope he'll be ready in time for the Vuelta.

OPL can put in a good team there with Greipel, Vanendert and VDB. He'll probably suck the first 2 weeks, but in the last week I'm expecting something.

I'm pragmatic, not sympathetic

the race is heavy in the first 2 weeks and should be more or less decided by stage 15.

I'm not that sure he'll suck that first 2 weeks. He's training again, and the tour is not yet finished.
Didn't spill a lot of energy in the tour, and in this form a bit of rest is required after all...

Mate, you will always see things the way you want to see them. No matter what I say you will remain adamant on your views, which is fine because it is your prerogative. It's borderline *** though when other posters here are trying to get the same thing through your thick skull but you still choose to play the role of a bigot. I already told you that not everything is black and white with Gesink this year. Furthermore, I never said that his climbing regressed immensely, but that he hasn't been climbing like his usual self. He does not normally have to work so hard just to hang on with the favorites. That's what he did, especially at the Pais Vasco which you have chosen to overlook, unsurprisingly. Nice try though. Dilute the facts all you want, doesn't make you any more right than you are now. I used some popular examples to try and illustrate my point which you have chosen to belittle in order to satisfy your ridiculous need to be right. It's hard not to resort to ad hominems when dealing with posters of your kind, my apologies if I hurt your feelings, didn't know you were the sensitive kind. Nor did I know that calling someone self-righteous was an offense of that magnitude. I see you're gonna try and play the victim card with me now.

How about we just agree to disagree on this one to avoid a pointless perpectual back and forth. This is getting us nowhere and is a waste of my time to be honest. I gave you the facts and my views on them, what you do with them is for you to decide.

Well, I'm just trying to establish whether you're talking rubbish, because you adopt a sort of lofty tone but your posts are light on content, IMO. You argue with unlikely certainty subjective points which can't be verified. That you often resort 'I just know.', 'You're just wrong.' and belittling/mildly insulting comments (bigot, really?) points in the same direction. Rhetoric only. I don't have the emotional attachment to this rider that others will have though, and I'm taking up their thread so I'm quite happy to leave it there.

Cue 'I know you are but what am I' post in 3...

Lol. Now you are attempting to turn this whole thing on me, in vain of course. Thank you so much for showing everyone what type of poster you are. Nothing brings out someone's true colours like fighting a lost argument, grasping at straws now are we? I have given you enough proof and other posters in here have backed me up on my statements. Who's talking rubbish now? It's quite hilarious you want to swipe other poster's opinions under the ''emotional attached'' or ''biased'' rug. I'm gonna let you in on a little something; you are as biased as they come denying proof even if they slapped you in the face. Aside from that, your attempts to be subtle when making provocative comments are laughable at best. Do you think your "Cue 'I know you are but what am I' post in 3..." is witty? Pathetic at most. You want to pretend you take the moral high ground on this but I'm not buying it. You are one to talk about being light on content, allow me to summarize your posts: ''Thank you but no thank you for your facts, I will always find a way to be right. Absolutely tosh. Aside from that of course my posts get repetitive but who's to blame for that? I vote you, for the blinders you have on which force me to repeat the same old thing in the hopes you get it through that thick skull of yours. Maybe if you learn to accept things for what they are we can up the level of the discussion. In the mean time I have to keep lowering myself to your level at the expense of the quality of my posts, unfortunately. Let's see how long it takes.

Cue "I have an inferiority complex someone please tell me I'm right in 3, 2, 1... You are as predictable as you make the rest of us out to be.

Duly noted. I just can't take it when people want to work around facts. He's entitled to his opinion just accept the facts. I will do my best to not pollute this thread any further with this jibber jabber, which is what I suggested earlier.

Gesink welcome at Quick Step

Perhaps that could lead to an upsurge in Belgian support ;)

I heard about that on Tour Du Jour where they asked Lefevere and he said Gesink is welcome, without hesitation. He said that Gesink appeared to have everything he needed at Rabobank though, so it isn't likely. It would be odd to see him riding in a different squad. He has always been at Rabobank, which is exactly why a change wouldn't be the worst thing for him. I thought is was interesting that Gesink didn't jump at the chance of ruling out any chance of a possible move away from Rabo.
