Ah, in that case you've never seen Belgium play. Now I understand.

aw c'mon they were good against Turkey (for 65 mins that is), and certainly not uninspirational

Talking about football in a cycling forum, classic. :p

1. History shows that the Dutch > Belgians in football. However, while the Dutch have an established elite squad the Belgians have a VERY talented one at the moment with a bright future ahead of them. I hope they make it to the EC.

2. History shows that the Belgians > the Dutch in cycling. However, currently the Dutch have a crop of great talents coming through the ranks and I foresee a bright future as well.

Furthermore, I must add that the Dutch had an odd World Cup, not playing there usual appealing brand of attacking football displayed at the Euro 2008 but still making it to the final after many years. Some people are content with winning ''ugly'' and still making it to finals while others want to stick to the characteristic appealing play. Take your pick.

There, can we move on to cycling now? Are we all out of Gesink vs VDB2 arguments? :p

I always support Belgium, but they are really disappointing in the last 10 years.

In 2002 they actually played some good football, and I thought they were a little unlucky against brazil (if my memory serves me right).

True that holland didn't play great, but their brand of football is acceptable, it is just our own game-play has always been impressive and thus there high expectations with how we play.

Euro next year baby, were init to win it (aka lose to germany/spain in the semis)

Very correct analysis.

VDB2 will get 4th, Gesink 7th.

No, in 2002.

I do watch Belgium play in important matches, but I just can't be bothered to care all that much.

Ermmm... No... Let's not get too carried away. :p

With your current squad you might have a chance in the future depending on how well they gel with each other and learn from the Dutch squad not to let ego's get in the way.

---------------------------------

Moving on to cycling, how do you Belgians think VDB2 will do today? This will be an important day for every GC candidates to gauge where they stand as far as ITT goes. Who do you think will do better out of Gesink/VDB2?

A grand tour is a funny thing and anything could happen but I have trouble believing Van den Broeck could improve significatively on his 5th (he might be 4th or even 3rd if the circumstances are 100% right but I don't see him being much closer to whoever ends up winning it), whereas Gesink has a lot more potential and I can easily picture him on the podium.

Can you, really? Gesink has everything a top cyclist needs, except any consistentcy, race craft or guile. I can easily see him riding off the front one day and losing 15 mins the next.

He has no chance of getting on podium this year.

All this talk of football and cycling is ridiculous.

Its clear England will win next Euros and then world cup.

Gesink will indeed finish 3rd in TdF with Wiggins 1st and Cav second.

Glad thats all clear now.

Gesink at the wet checkpoint 1 +1.19
Vandenbroeck in the dry +1.30

JvdB is really a horrid time trialler if he can't do better than Gesink by the end of this TT in the dry.

In that case Gesink is a horrid climber.

Really? Because I think consistency is Gesink's strong point.

Are you talking about another Gesink? This has never happened to him. Not once. From a very young age.

Some of the comments are just so far off it's mind boggling to think that the one's responsible actually believe some of the stuff the spew in here. Gesink not consistent, seriously? This year he's been under par for sure, but he is usually right up there in almost every race he contests. Even as a neo pro. Get a clue.

About the ITT, VDB finished strongly, though only 10 seconds faster than Gesink in better conditions. I don't really know what to take out of these results.

With VDB starting in much better conditions than Gesink tho. Don't know what to make of it.

Still, last year TDF the difference was more than 2 minutes in the closing TT.
The gap is now not existing

Someone getting a litlle scared? You have to make a big point about VDB being in much better conditions than Gesink so you can make yourself feel better about Gesink getting beaten by VDB in a tt.;)

How is stating a fact constitute being scared? I'd say it's rather encouraging. Wouldn't you have done the same if it concerned Evans? The hypocrisy.
