watched the last five km. another hideaous stage, no fans, no distances to go, thick cloud and smog, and flying barriers.

Shame theres no time bonus's, Roche would be up to 5th with the 10 second bonus.

Brave move my Froome today giving it a go, but we all know Martin won the GC after day 1.

That's a disgrace what happened to Yannick Eijssen. The rider was struck by a sign board and than is hit by a motor bike. The injuries he has sustained are "some facial abrasions, including a small fracture around his upper teeth" according to Dr Scott Major.

Inrng pic of barriers

With the helicopter flying too low, the barriers not being tied back properley and then the motorbike hitting Yannick, he was lucky to get away with such injuries.

EDIT: sorry if iam over reacting but after what has happened this year I would hate to see another avoidable incident.

Not a bad stage, Froome gave it a go but the course seems to be all concrete, metal barriers and trees. It looks to be a tad dangerous but maybe thats just me.

There is absolutely zero chance that Renshaw moved to Rabo to lead out Theo Bos unless Rabobank offered him completely insane money. If he wanted to be a well paid lead out man, he'd have stuck with Cavendish. He's gone there to race for himself.

He is going to do that though, combined with riding for his own chances. There will be races he's going to be Bos his leadout man and there are going to be races (probably the 'tougher' sprint races?) when he's the main sprinter. When Rabobank signed Renshaw, Renshaw commented and said: "I'm very eager to share my experience, help Theo Bos and help the Rabobank cycling team getting more wins."

Wow, what another great performance from Froome. Kept the break going so that his Irish brothers could get the win.

So Tony is the only rider who wins two World Tour stage races this year?:)

*Tirreno-Adriatico, Tour de Romandie, Tour de France

* Volta a Catalunya, Giro d'italia

If you want something that has never been done before in the World Tour:

* Amstel Gold Race, Flèche Wallone, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Clasica de San Sebastian, GP de Québec

Do you always feel the need to stick feathers up Gilberts' ****?

(rhetoric question dont bother...)

its farcical. Win a 10km time trial and get as many ranking points as the Dauphine or Paris Nice. Idiotic. The whole race is a sham

Or even worse: a Monument. P-N this year was a bit of a scam as well(although not nearly as bad as Beijing) and Dauphiné is mostly a warm up race for the Tour.

Hopefully something more interesting happens tomorrow that would mix GC standings up a bit.

About as likely as a giant panda running amok in the peloton. Today's stage was the most selective by far.

Great to see Froome have a go and Nick win something at last. Please no more Irish wins though this weekend:eek:.

Good to hear the Eijssen's injury wasn't as bad as was thought. Fracture in the roof of your mouth doesn't sound too pleasant.

They were having trouble finding out how much pain he was in - Could not speak will be a painful buy for a while

Renshaw will be Rabobanks main sprinter until and unless he shows that he's not good enough. They are simply paying him too much cash to intend him to be primarily a lead out, and, not to put too fine a point on it, their existing sprinters have been nearly useless.

I do agree that Bos' biggest problem isn't raw speed, it's all the other parts of being a sprinter. And coming off Renshaw's wheel, ie having Renshaw do all the parts that involve having a brain, would probably improve his results considerably. But he'll still get dropped every time they go over a speedbump. I suspect that most of the help Bos will will be getting from Renshaw will be of the watching and learning variety.

So Nicolas Roche gets some compensation for a season ruined by crashes, injuries and poor form and Ag2r get a few more World Tour points. Actually, I see that Peraud is now up to 7th on GC (on finishing places), which if I recall correctly would get him a whole bunch of sporting criteria points through some convoluted knock on effect. Is it that it puts him in the World Tour top 30? Something like that anyway.

Bizarrely, the Tour of Beijing could end up being the second most important race of Ag2r's season, behind only Gadret's Giro heroics. Not good news for Euskaltel, Geox, FDJ and any other teams scrapping it out for the last couple of World Tour spots.

On another note, United Health Care will be pleased to see their new big signing Deignan showing that he's getting back towards his 2009 form. I think that's potentially a really good move for both the rider and the team.
