This is coming from a bombastic dutchie. We all know how the Dutch have a rivalry with the Belgians so it is clear why he would make this statement.

There's no Dutchietour ==> no rivalry :p

van avermaet has attacked and Gilbert is forced to chase after his hesitation.

First climb I have seen that goes above 10km in distance in belgium.

Was a counterattack from GVA & Leukemans, after a group with Styby

Should be interesting to see who goes well on this long climb.

Schar has gone away and got the gap! Michael looks very good.

Simon Clarke going.

Gilbert just raising the speed (no attack), and 20~ just drops off in groups of 2-3. Pretty sick.

Gilbert putting on a show as usual.

Very surprised Ligthart is managing (for now at least) to hang on. C'mon Pim!

These riders are no match for mighty Phil...
I've got the feeling he's racing this hard for training purposes.

In all seriousness, why don't The Dutch have a national tour. Is it because the country is too small?

There used to be a Tour of the Netherlands but it was a pretty average race TBH. Was usually one moderate-length TT, two classics-style stages with a few hills which were pretty tame, and a few flat sprinter stages.

It was subsumed into the multi-national Eneco Tour (Tour of the Netherlands was typically in August as well), which basically has the same formula except they split the two 'classics' between the Netherlands and Belgium, and added a few sprinters stages.

Ligthart implodes.

Was to be expected, he is a sprinter after all. But it's very good news for his development that he was able to hang on.

Don't under rate Greg...he's looking pretty strong.

GVA took the time bonus.

Please. Gilbert will obliterate van Avermaet when the only sprint which really matters is contested.

He's really strong and impressed me this week, but he doesn't match Phil, that's for sure.
