Did look a bit like Mark Donovan was Remco-ing Remco there but I think it was directed at Donnenwirth, still it's going in the 'future use' folder

him going for it instead of Alaphilippe would likely have resulted in the same result, though. Both have "no shape".

If they wanted to win the race, they should have worked for Magnier. But that's obviously not what it's about this week.
It was still a decent ride for guys with "no shape". The INEOS gang has negative shape apparantly.

I think Remco's shape is decent. He pulled a lot and was responding to attacks. He just wanted it hard and was not focussed on the win. Probably we have more of the same today unless he wants to test a long TT effort with 20-40km to go. The sections of false flat might suit him.

yeah, that's what I meant, and it also makes sense in regards to bigger goals ahead.

But yesterday, I doubt he would have been able to beat Williams either. His attacks looked alright, but he always needed to catch some breath again afterwards.

What the majority of the bedroom keyboard warriors on this forum don't seem to understand is that pro cycling, like everything else involving people, is political and subject to human relations. Remco knows perfectly well that winning the Tour of Britain would be basically meaningless for his career and that Steve Williams would be a much more 'appropriate' winner for a British race. He is not at the race to win, he is there to get race conditioning (believe it or not pro cyclists generally prefer competing in races to private training) and to help promote the event (which came very close to folding) with his presence.
