I don't think he was that much stronger than everyone else. It looked they had a headwind too.The whole climb I was asking myself if Remco (and QS) was weak or stupid. Turns out it was the latter. If Van Wilder had nuked it earlier it should’ve been significant gaps.

Indeed tactics were not pin point, and Remco seemed quite frustrated (could have saved himself the brake test maybe). Anyway tommorow has another hard climb, he could still try to win GC.The whole climb I was asking myself if Remco (and QS) was weak or stupid. Turns out it was the latter. CavroomeThis Brennan kid is kinda good, 17th today. Maybe he can become the new Froome and the new Cavendish.
Missed a break check, where was it?Every time you think remco has matured he seems to have another bizarre tantrum. Hopefully he has an explanation for that break check

Nice win for him, and winning is always good, but…not giving me “might win the Worlds RR” vibes.
Thanks for the video, I missed that when I saw the finale. There is no reason to break on a climb like that

Thanks. Yeah pretty weird. Curious what he and the other rider might say about it.There is no reason to break on a climb like that

Yes I'm interested in his explanation. When I first saw it, I thought maybe it's an accident, but on rewatch, I would never touch the breaks like that when racing up a climb, even if sitting up.Yeah pretty weird. Curious what he and the other rider might say about it.
I don’t think he actually wanted to break check. Looked like he swerved to the left and wanted to break and so force someone else to the front. There is no reason to break on a climb like that

Wanting to break to force someone else to the front is the definition of a break checkI don’t think he actually wanted to break check. Looked like he swerved to the left and wanted to break and so force someone else to the front.

I doubt he can get to the front on a final climb in his shape. The real question is whether today Geraint Thomas' lap of honour to wave to the crowd continues, or given this is his last race and it finishes in his home town and he's 16 minutes down and won't be marked, whether he tries something on Caerphilly Mountain to try to finish his career in style.
It would be the most antithetical thing to the way Thomas has raced since his transition to a stage racer in the second half of his career, but it would also be a very poetic/romantic kind of conclusion to his career.
