Nothing. GVA simply didn't had it, he was in the slipstream of Bettiol and Visco but couldn't pass them. Cort was way to fast.

Cort crushed them indeed. I was a bit under the impression that Bettiol wasnt paying attention to GVA, maybe thats exagerrated as you point out. Bettiol is proving himself already to be an asset to BMC (certainly in stage 3 he was important and at stage 2 he was also there where he had to be)

Lutsenko has climbed well before. He just had some youth fat in the previous years that kept him from climbing consistently. But he definitely had some strong showings in mountains before.

I for one applaud Lutsenko on his amazing GC win.

Jesus Herrada just shows he's got everything to be a great standard-bearer for Spain in the coming years.

It's great for himself and for us cyclingfans he left Movistar, but for the Spanish team it means they had to say goodbye to the natural successor of Balaverde.

Herreda is a good rider, but no he is not the natural successor of Valverde. Not even close.

The climb is 5.7 KM at 10.5% (usual Vuelta climb)

3km last year, 5km this year and so on. He just lost last year's fat.

This is probably the biggest exaggeration I've heard so far this year.

I don't mean in terms of talent/amount of wins.

But we're talking about a Spanish rider who combines explosivity with really good climbing legs. Those type of riders are rare. He can do well in the classics, stage races and maybe also in GT's.

For a Spanish WT team, signing him would have been equal to a winning lottery. Movistar should have give him more freedom/confidence.
