Well he had already proven he could win stages in these type of races, he did so last year (murcia, almeria, etc)

Now I hope he can score wins in a World Tour stage race, that would be a step up, or even a HC continental race, that would already be a step up.

Looks by the pick a bit after the finish that EBH was there as well perhaps in 4-5th somewhere.

Depends more on the opposition than the rank of the race, his wins here are PT standard IMO. Great to see him complete his track crossover so convincingly.

You've got to feel for that poor ****** Bennati. Although he'll happily accept his first win at Milan-San Remo ;)

I would assume he has tested his fitness and is scaling back a bit so he doesn't peak too early for MSR

I disagree. These are strong wins by Bos, no doubt, and against good competition, but winning at the Tour of Oman in February is not comparable to winning at a HC or World Tour race in the middle of the season.

If Bos is getting over climbs that Cav can't, then something is wrong. I'm starting to wonder if the ability to get over shorter climbs that Cav displayed in 2009 was an aberration and not the norm. He has no shot at repeating M-SR if he can't get his climbing form sorted out.

Are we sure that Cav wasn't there? The climb seems more like a false flat on the profile.

Mind you Bos would have finished the Vuelta without a problem if he didn't bump into a motor in the last TT, few days before the end. So he's not like Kenny van Hummel either.

Bennati is making a fool out of himself. Always someone who is faster. Being a top tier sprinter you'd expect him to have snatched a victory by now. If I were one of his team mates I'd feel pretty lame. Hoping he will take a win soon, because this is just silly.

Cav probably wanted to help Goss keep his red jersey? Also probably thought Goss could win the stage outright.

Benna seems to have always been that way. He's like an Italian Graeme Brown, except without the barging and bashing.

Bennati is more like Rojas than Brown. Not only in finishing close without winning, but also the surviving the harder stages, and still losing.

Bennati used to be much more successful. Brown is a petty sprinter. Seems like Daniele has lost confidence or speed over the years.

Bennati's CQ graph tells a tale:

graphRiderHistory.asp

In '07 he won two stages at the Tour, and two stages plus the points jersey at the Vuelta. I think it's safe to say he won't hit those heights again, especially with the young sprinting talent in the peloton right now.

He has stage wins in all 3 Grand Tours so he is certainly not Brown or Rojas.

More like 2abel. :(

Great win for Bos...and I'm happy for him and Rabo! I believe we will see more wins from him throughout the season.

Why did you have to throw Kamikaze Kenny in there...? :p

This time Bos won by more than a bike length, according to Sporza.

edit: and according to Robert Gesink, he sprinted from 300 meters out.

He(Bennati) doesnt have quite the class of say a Pettaci. Still not a bad start to the season for him.

the real losers are the ones shot out the back and giving up..

Another way to look at it is that so far this year he is a much more consistent sprinter than ever before. He usually doesn't get more than 12-13 podiums per year at most at least in the last few years. Now he has 6 podiums in a week and a half. His best year was 2007 and perhaps he has gotten back to that form now.

He had injury problems, something with his Achilles tendon i believe.

What does the blue dot mean?

Still even without a win he has been one of the best riders in the early season. I'm not sure how the CQ ranking works - but I assume he still got points for all his podiums and the overall 3rd in Qatar?

I assume by now it's a confidence thing ...

Still you'd expect him to take at least one win. Nobody remembers a podium.
