There’s nearly always contact in sprints with no penalties. I understand the new rules I’m just saying it’s weak.

In the end no, it's not weak. Replay from above clearly show the deviation was substantial and it affected Christens sprint. On top of that contact was involved. It was a mistake made on Rui side, as he could have won by staying on his sprinting line. If barriers would be closer it could even end with a crash. All in all if this would be warranted as acceptable behaviour then Christen would be allowed to push back, that is clearly not allowed. Bottom line if crash would to occur fans would blame Rui for it, that is all there is to it.

I will be contrarian with this post. Reckon Jayco have wasted time bringing Groenewegen to this race. They could have sprinted with walscheid and then brought a climber. Dylan could have done the three or 4 four one day races coming up in Belgium in the next 7 to 10 days. Importantly you are sprinting for more UCI points and of course you don't have to caary yourself over hilly/mountainous terrain.

Well unless it was his plan to train on hilly terrain. It open up possibilities for more sprint wins if you can get over climbs.

it's also not like Jayco has loads of climbers available. Who should have come? Berhe for a top 20?!

Well if you watched how Reinders threaded through the peleton from 3kms to 2kms you can see why he is valued. In saying that, I wouldn't bring Reinders to the TDF because Matthews can lead into the sprint train. The main thing in the TDF is to get Groenewegen to the final in a decent position, because he can find his own way in the last kms with his racing instincts. The 2024 TDF was a bit of disaster because Groenewegen only made 2 finals, one which he won and one where he was blocked.
Watched it, wasn't impressed.

Jayco isn't riding for points (yet). Groenewegen wants to do a 3 week stage race with high mountains, good for him to practise climbing a bit. Two years ago he overdid it with Dauphine but last years route was working fine.

You realise that White was sacked because Jayco are too close to the relegation places, like they were in the last cycle. You realise their recruitment of riders for 2026 has been impeded by their current spot in the UCI points table, even though they are 1 or 2% chance of being relegated. You could have sprinted with Walscheid at Hungary with a good team and gone to the tranche of one day races in Belgium with Groenewegen to get real points.

And we're off to the races (at least the stream is), it looks like it'll be another sunny day in lovely Slovenia for the queen stage.

5 riders in the break and I'm not familiar with any of them, but so far they have a gap of almost 6 mins. 65km to go.
