Fun fact. Peter Stetina is his long career has not yet had a pro win, stage or GC wise.

The leaders are really struggling. And it's a hot day here.
You're from Utah, right?
Piccoli is looking really strong atm. You have to give it to the race organizers, they always create great routes and use the terrain that they have in the best possible way.

James Piccoli has tinkered his way to the top of North American racing
James Piccoli makes his own carbon-fiber bicycle parts. He takes risky gambles in big races. And he's become one of the top stage racers in North America.

Now the question is whether Hermans will blow himself up the way Stetina and Piccoli did.

Convincing win by the best rider in this field. Getting close to the overall victory.
Very decent rides by Piccoli and Eg too.

  1. Hermans
  2. Piccoli
  3. Eg

So... what's the situation behind Eg?
Stetina… Dombrowski… ???
Then the Rally duo followed by Almeida, who paced himself well after getting dropped really early (mechanical/shifting mistake?).
Who would have guessed that Trek would outclimb EF with this team?

too bad about the 20s penalty for Piccoli yesterday, otherwise it would still be super close in gc (although it was a correct one, tbh)

It is still close, there is still a lot of climbing left. For example this is the last stage:

I'll also be surprised if James Piccoli doesn't get picked up by any of the WT teams any time soon. He's already 27 so a latecomer to the game.

I agree with the Piccoli's DS that drafting (behind cars and motos) needs to be enforced consistently from race to race and maybe more importantly from team to team.

He did win the 2019 Belgian Waffle Ride and got 2nd at Dirty Kanza. Maybe he should focus on gravel...
He's almost a local to me so I support the guy. He's even got a local beer named after him!

Another brutal stage up Powder Mountain with big time gaps. Hermans was the strongest but was also smart to use others to chase down Stetina.

Piccoli once again impressive, but the 20s penalty is going to cost him, whilst the correct call, he can rightly be annoyed as we see it happening all the time in races and never picked up on.
