Ah - but the Iberdrola-Loinaz team that Contador rode for wasn't tied to the Fundación Euskadi, whereas the Olarra u-23 team that Samu rode for was the predecessor to today's Orbea Continental team, and was tied to the Fundación Euskadi.
Hence why I expect Comunidad Valenciana's Victor Cabedo to ride for Euskaltel soon, since he's come through Fundación Euskadi's teams.
There are a lot of teams in the Basque-Navarrese regions, many of which are tied to pro teams, as this is perhaps the best-organised region for amateur races in Spain.
Iberdrola-Loinaz was tied to ONCE-Eroski, which is why Joaquím Rodríguez and Xavier Florencio (both non-Basque Iberdrola alumni) started their pro careers with ONCE.
Similarly, at the time there was the Reynolds team, which fed to Banesto (and harked back to the team's pre-Banesto sponsor). The current amateur team feeding to Unzué's Abarcá Sports lineup (Movistar) is Lizarte, who are Navarrese. Caja Rural also have an amateur equivalent, which used to feed to Movistar too.
Euskaltel, of course, have Orbea Continental, which is professional, and the amateur teams Naturgas Energía and Koplad-Uni2.
