We need to unban DAOTEC fir this thread :D

Just noticed his ban a few days ago (even though I was one of those correcting him) - how long is he banned?

Regardless of the "quantity vs. quality" debate, he also often had some rather good rumours.

Greenedge foreigners

Being an Aussie i'm obviously interested in the Greenedge project. So many Aussies have/will be linked with the team but i was wondering what 'foreign' riders had been linked with the team. My thoughts would be a couple of bigger names as the domestiques etc will surely be Aussies as they should easily be attracted and signed from Fly V etc

Some Shack riders perhaps?

Anyone?

I'm surprised Movistar haven't entered Eusebio Unzué, Franco Pellizotti or Sergio Henao for any races yet this season, yet they're apparently on the roster. They injured or something?

DAOTEC's Movistar thread featured a constantly updating roster list. Several people came and went, many of whom were never even linked to Movistar, or only briefly. People like Alberto Contador and Patrik Sinkewitz appeared sporadically. Valverde was on many of them, as was Henao. Somehow, Eusebio Unzué was included every single time on the rider list.

Pellizotti was mentioned many times. Even after the roster was finalised. He kept on the "no? Well, they coming" trip for months. Up until his ban he was still adamant that Pellizotti was "just about to" sign for Movistar, where the "just about to" phase had lasted about six months.

I never knew DAOTEC, cause I wasn't around. What personality did he have and why was he banned? Did you have a personal vendetta with him or was he just that irritating to everyone?

Ah ok. I remember him having Unzue down, but didn't see the rest.

DAOTEC was a guy who would spend seemingly hours trawling through cycling websites in other languages, posting everything he found in a bid to be first to everything. His posts often bore the hallmarks of google translate, though whether he went from the original (usually from somewhere like Revista Mundo Ciclistico, Jornal Ciclismo, Biciciclismo or Marca) straight to English or through his first language (believed to be Dutch) as an intermediary we don't know. He would sometimes post gibberish, then edit in news stories later to make it look like he beat everybody to the punch. He had an almost preternatural love of Óscar Sevilla and followed Rock Racing quasi-religiously.

DAOTEC was a very good source of information, as he would do all of the trawling of these sites and pick up the information. He was fantastic for getting the results of smaller races and obscure races, especially in Colombia. However, he had a bad habit of never distinguishing rumour from fact, not backing up his posts by mentioning the source, and being a very smug "winner" - if rumours were proven correct he would smugly quote his own post to tell you he was right, but if they were proven wrong he'd respond with something like "you just wait, they coming".

DAOTEC hated being wrong. Like, really hated it. I only had the one run-in with him, but it encapsulates DAOTEC quite well. He posted some news about the number of American teams in the péloton in 2011, with a list of continuing teams, new teams, and teams that had collapsed. He included, under the "teams that had collapsed" heading, the women's team Safi-Pasta Zara. Safi-Pasta Zara are (were) my favourite women's team, and I knew for a fact that in 2010 they were an Italian team riding on a Lithuanian licence. So what were they doing on the list of AMERICAN teams that had collapsed, when they'd never been American? I pointed out that this was clearly a mistake. DAOTEC responded with some rambling about how the team had been collapsing ever since Marina Romoli's terrible accident (and posted a link to it as if I didn't know of it). I said that didn't change my point, that they were not an American team that was collapsing as they'd never been an American team - however, they were BECOMING an American-licenced team in 2011. DAOTEC told me that I'd lost all credibility in his eyes because the facts were there to see. I looked up the source (which he hadn't given so I had to find it for myself). Sure enough, Safi-Pasta Zara had been included under the wrong heading, and had been moved into the "New American teams" category, where they belonged. I pointed this out to DAOTEC, that the disagreement had been due to him simply c+ping the article, mistakes and all. DAOTEC considered this me admitting that I was wrong, and gloated massively telling me his post was right (even though it wasn't) and I should never have questioned him.

DAOTEC's factual inaccuracies became a bit more frequent as silly season went on and transfer rumours abounded. He posted Ángel Vicioso's bit about becoming a priest verbatim, then when it turned out to be a joke pretended to be in on it. He apparently became quite insulting to other members especially via PM when questioned, though I saw little of it. He received a one-week ban, then that was upped to a semi-permanent one after he re-appeared under a sock puppet account that was so transparent you wonder why he bothered in the first place, he may as well have called it "DAOTEC SOCK PUPPET ACCOUNT".

Thanks a lot Libertine, I really appreciate the thoroughness. Also had a few laughs along the way. Sound like he was kind of a tool, but I still regret not being around at the time :)

Oh come on, you're a linguist surely it must of been annoying seeing DAO butcher so many languages? :D

People, that has been more than more than enough on DAOTEC. Back on topic please. This is one of the key forum threads with a very specific purpose, not the cafe one.

Maybe we could sticky this ?
CQ is gone, I always found this a useful thread to keep tabs on.

Are there rumours of any new Protour teams starting up for 2012 apart from Greenedge?

Hopefully no new teams ever go straight into the ProTour. They should do a year or two as Pro Continental first. If the team is good enough, they'll get into most events they want anyway (BMC, Cervelo).

Joke of the day .... Menchov to Christina Watch

How about Gilbert to QuickStep? I guess they got the cash now :D

As per DAOTEC, I do not agree with banning anyone, if you dont like the person, just put him on ignore.

Would you call the omega -split- lotto teams new if so.....

It wasn't totally clear whether they would be 'big' teams or not. Lotto sounded like they wanted a team something like Topsport Vlaanderen. I suppose Omega Pharma would likely stay in the top flight, though. Who knows what sort of a team they'd be. Less Belgian and less classicsy, maybe...

tiralongo to saxo bank.

maybe it should be in the "games" sub forum as it is a prediction rather than a rumour, but it seems likely after todays result. loyalty breeds loyalty.
