DAOTEC was a guy who would spend seemingly hours trawling through cycling websites in other languages, posting everything he found in a bid to be first to everything. His posts often bore the hallmarks of google translate, though whether he went from the original (usually from somewhere like Revista Mundo Ciclistico, Jornal Ciclismo, Biciciclismo or Marca) straight to English or through his first language (believed to be Dutch) as an intermediary we don't know. He would sometimes post gibberish, then edit in news stories later to make it look like he beat everybody to the punch. He had an almost preternatural love of Óscar Sevilla and followed Rock Racing quasi-religiously.
DAOTEC was a very good source of information, as he would do all of the trawling of these sites and pick up the information. He was fantastic for getting the results of smaller races and obscure races, especially in Colombia. However, he had a bad habit of never distinguishing rumour from fact, not backing up his posts by mentioning the source, and being a very smug "winner" - if rumours were proven correct he would smugly quote his own post to tell you he was right, but if they were proven wrong he'd respond with something like "you just wait, they coming".
DAOTEC hated being wrong. Like, really hated it. I only had the one run-in with him, but it encapsulates DAOTEC quite well. He posted some news about the number of American teams in the péloton in 2011, with a list of continuing teams, new teams, and teams that had collapsed. He included, under the "teams that had collapsed" heading, the women's team Safi-Pasta Zara. Safi-Pasta Zara are (were) my favourite women's team, and I knew for a fact that in 2010 they were an Italian team riding on a Lithuanian licence. So what were they doing on the list of AMERICAN teams that had collapsed, when they'd never been American? I pointed out that this was clearly a mistake. DAOTEC responded with some rambling about how the team had been collapsing ever since Marina Romoli's terrible accident (and posted a link to it as if I didn't know of it). I said that didn't change my point, that they were not an American team that was collapsing as they'd never been an American team - however, they were BECOMING an American-licenced team in 2011. DAOTEC told me that I'd lost all credibility in his eyes because the facts were there to see. I looked up the source (which he hadn't given so I had to find it for myself). Sure enough, Safi-Pasta Zara had been included under the wrong heading, and had been moved into the "New American teams" category, where they belonged. I pointed this out to DAOTEC, that the disagreement had been due to him simply c+ping the article, mistakes and all. DAOTEC considered this me admitting that I was wrong, and gloated massively telling me his post was right (even though it wasn't) and I should never have questioned him.
DAOTEC's factual inaccuracies became a bit more frequent as silly season went on and transfer rumours abounded. He posted Ángel Vicioso's bit about becoming a priest verbatim, then when it turned out to be a joke pretended to be in on it. He apparently became quite insulting to other members especially via PM when questioned, though I saw little of it. He received a one-week ban, then that was upped to a semi-permanent one after he re-appeared under a sock puppet account that was so transparent you wonder why he bothered in the first place, he may as well have called it "DAOTEC SOCK PUPPET ACCOUNT".
