Bish, bash, Bosch? Or are they complete? I reckon Russ would fit in well with Kittel, Van Hummel etc

Glad for Downing that he's got himself something. He's had a bit of a forgettable year results wise but rode pretty well in the Giro and was going OK untill he crashed in the third week.

He doesn't need euro either(who does anyway), I just figured most of you don't know the value of Norwegian kroner. Also, he's already making 1 million euros.

I guess it helps having guys like Brailsford saying Edvald is by far the most talented rider on the team, but he certainly has to start winning monuments to deserve such a wage.

Maybe it's 3,5m NOK!

Maybe he needs the high salary because he still lives in Norway. Trying to get by on a budget in Oslo was an interesting experience...

I would absolutely love to see Downing at Vaconsoliel. He would almost certainly get a real good shot at the Tour of Britain then as well.

That's almost the reason why I like to holiday in Asia now (that and China and Japan were two countries I have always wanted to visit since I was a child).

To be honest though, I absolutely love Oslo and highly recommend it to anyone. Beautiful, friendly and welcoming, and set in a beautiful surrounding which still manages to be about the most 'ordinary' in the country. Just be prepared to have contingency plans for the cost of food and especially drink.

It reminds me of what somebody once me: Norwegians go to Sweden to buy alcohol because it's too expensive in Sweden, the Swedes go to Denmark for the exact same thing, and the Danes go to Germany again to buy the exact same product because it's too expensive.

Whether or not this true and just a load of ****, I have no idea.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was (but only really refers to those close enough to their respective borders to make it worthwhile. Somebody from Fredrikstad might go to Sweden but somebody from Bergen wouldn't; somebody from Malmö or Helsingborg might go to Denmark but somebody from Uppsala or Stockholm wouldn't; somebody from Odense might go to Germany but somebody from Ålborg probably wouldn't, owing to the expense of travelling there negating the benefits of the cheaper products). Certainly in some parts of western Germany there were people who'd drive sometimes 10, 15, 20km out of their way to fill their cars up in Luxembourg, because fuel was so much cheaper that it negated the loss of the extra journey. Same principle.

people from Stockholm go on a big cruise boat to the high sees and buy alchool free of taxes

well. . . . almost :p a friend of mine is there for 6 months and has been doing that, taxes for achool in sweden and bat**** insane

Bergen is indeed one or ten tunnels too far, but some of the Oslo people buy alcohol in Strömstad, that's 135km one way.
I don't go there though, the red wine selection in Strömstad is awful.

BTW if you're ever driving through Europe and are thinking of passing through a corner of Switzerland, you have to pay 40€ for a motorway permit (at least it's valid for the rest of the year.) Ugh!

just some guy said:
which I assume means WT as he said a few months ago that he felt he could still perform but needed to show himself with better results

Could be that he has just been signed by a Pro Conti. Sky signed him because he was British not because he was that talented. Probably something like Champion Systems

People from all over Denmark go to Germany to buy alcohol. Even Aalborg. Seriously.
And I've seen Swedes (no idea from where in Sweden, though) take the ferry from Trelleborg to Sassnitz for the sole purpose of buying wine & beer. They didn't even see anything of Rügen, but only went into the border shop at the ferry terminal, and then back to Sweden. And they didn't buy some German brand, but the Swedish "Norrlands Guld".
Frankly, it's almost embarrassing.

I know of Swedes who travel hundreds of Km´s to get the ferry to Germany, load up the van and trailer ( it is for my personal use and we are having a party,Sir)

Of Course most of it gets sold to friends at a small mark up which because of the amount covers costs and leaves the person a profit or drinking for free.

It can´t be worth it I hear you say.

24 cans of Heineken about 250 kr at the government bottle shop

24 cans of heineken @ Rostock Border shop 99 DKK or 122 sek ie about half price.

PS if your a beer drinker Norrlands Guld - cat ****.

no they didnt. They had been looking at him for a while and it was his victory in the Tour of Ireland that sealed it. Russ has been one of the hardest working domestiques Sky have had, and a key part of the leadout train (rememember back to the cancer council classic, sky's deput, it was downing did the monster turn). He was also if you remember, the first british rider to get a win for the new team. Yes, Russ isnt the most talented rider around, but to say he got the spot because he was british not because he was talented is way off. The guy was a former national champion, you dont win that on guts alone.

As for the new team, its Endura Racing (who are aiming to be Pro conti).

Their full roster for 2012 is now finalised:
Alexander Wetterhall (Sweden)
Alexandre Blain (France)
Dean Windsor (Australia)
Erick Rowsell (UK)
Ian Bibby (UK)
Ian Wikinson (UK)
Iker Camano (Spain)
Jack Anderson (Australia)
Jonny McEvoy (UK)
Jon Tiernan-Locke (UK)
Paul Voss (Germany)
Rene Mandri (Estonia)
Rob Partridge (UK)
Russell Downing (UK)
Scott Thwaites (UK)
Zak Dempster (Australia)
