most of their riders are paraguayn actually. but the team really sucks. they seme to have good money but acquire the worst riders. of course paraguay riders already aren't too good. only gustavo lopez and ibon zugasti are ok

The national team, and Start Cycling Team - although they have a Paraguayan license, most of the riders are Argentinians.

3 of their 13 riders are from Argentina.

It's a strange team. Old Ibon Zugasti keeps on getting worthless top 10 placings in odd races in Morocco and Algeria. Mauricio Frazer sometimes makes it into a breakaway group. Then they have this guy from Romania and I have totally no idea how he ended up in this team.

There are so many good riders in Argentina and Uruguay (Dotti, Escuela, Soto, Clavero, Saldano, Rosas, Dario Diaz, Presa etc.), Start should have signed at least one of them. But the way it is this team's a joke.

yes the team either has a lot of money or no money and that's why those riders aren't there. the team used to be a lot stronger some years ago when it wasn;'t uci

The Vuelta a Asturias site had an Argentine flag next to their name, and in years gone by they've been predominantly Argentinean, so if that's wrong and they're Paraguayan now I apologise, I got the wrong end of the stick on that one.

As for good Argentine riders not riding for them, I think San Luís-Somos Todos taking a fair few has had an effect (plus there's always been a few like Chamorro in Brazil), but obviously there are still plenty of decent Argentineans that they haven't got their hands on.

As for the Eastern Europeans, sometimes they've seemed a bit random, in the past there've been a number of Hungarians and Serbians who've shown up on their roster (I'm pretty sure Zsolt Der has raced for them at times).

I looked at a start list a few days ago (Maroc?), and there were 4 riders with Argentine flags.
Either way, most of the riders are people that those of us who aren't South America experts haven't heard of.

no one will sign rebellin,it would have happened until now if it was true

at least astana, katusha and landbouwekredit i think tried to sign him.rebellin is on the blacklist, pat threatened those teams.he didn't apologize and uci won't let him ride again at high level.sad but that's how it is

Jesus Christ, can't Movistar stop signing Euskaltel talent even for a minute?

worst part is they sign all that talent only to have them domestique for piti on all the races that matter. . .

guys like Costa, benat, Madrazo, castroviejo and quintana deserve more then either being alone in the peloton trying for their own chances or worse, saving piti from the wind or giving him their wheel/bike.

no wonder costa wanted to leave in 2010

I want to see these guys have some freedom. Benat could be quite successful in short stage races I think, whereas castroviejo has a very solid TT to back up his climbing. Stupid Movistar for not giving these guys a chance :(

Indeed considering the extent of talent in their team even barring Valverde and Cobo they've got guys like Benat, Costa, Plaza, Quintana, Madrazo, Arroyo, Visconti, Bruseghin, Castrovejeo ,just to name some from the top of my head.
All those guys could come top 10 and even podium in shorter races and yet asiedes from Quintana they have barely made an impact this season even disconsidering the fact that they have been working for Valverde I would still expect more than that.
For me the way their riders are developing and the way they are recruiting they should have a team to rival the best next year at least on paper but their perfomances seem to contradict that.

Edit: Forgot about Moreno but still doesnt change much

According to Raisport Nibali asked 10 days for decide between Liquigas and Astana. Astana's offer would be roughly 1.5 (or 1.8, cant remember) higher than Liquigas, but Liquigas's offer includes some big bonus if he wins either Giro or Tour during next 2 years.

Arroyo is not explosive and only really contends at the Giro, the rest of the year he's a domestique deluxe and sometime descent attack forager. Visconti will pick up plenty. Bruseghin is a true diesel whose career is on the windup. Castroviejo is still young. Plaza is coming off a near career-ending injury last year, so give him some time. They've dominated what little is left of the Spanish domestic calendar (as well they might) - Javi Moreno has long been deserving of the step-up.

I think we should give Beñat a free pass for a while. The guy is fragile mentally at the best of times. He's been struggling with injury for much of the year, and let's bear in mind that it's still less than a year since one of his friends and colleagues died in his arms.

Wow, even me who isnt that great a Nibali fan can realise that he easily has the ability to win the Giro, especially as guys like Scarponi and Basso are growing older, and I doubt your Colombian friends will be able to do much to about it unless they seriously improve their TT.
