I'm not buying the rolland to bmc rumors.

me too, the french teams will never let him go. And why would he want to be a domestique for evans where he can be a leader and ride for himself in the french teams.

He'd immediately become the #2 at BMC I'd think. He'd be the leader in any stage race he's in aside from those Cadel rides in.

Right now, that's the same position he has at Europcar... he's #2 behind Voeckler. I can only assume BMC could offer him a much larger contract though. If there's no difference in terms of your position on the team and you are going to make more money... I can see a move.

No perhaps another French team would be able to make him the undisputed leader... but Cofidis has Taaramae and FDJ has Jeannesson and Fredrigo. While he might be in a little better position in terms of where he falls on the "leadership ladder" on the french teams... he wouldn't be in a much better position. He's looking at #2 GC or shared #1 GC on all of them.

At Europcar, you'd think Voeckler will have more more crack at GC at TDF because there's no way he'd be allowed in breakaways anymore. Rolland would easily be the #2 going into #1 climber/GC rider for 2013. For his development it may be the best thing, depending on how well they mentor and shield him from the pressure.

a few people have said that they liked cadel as their mentor, such as Roe.

yah and what other mentors has he had?

anyway. I doubt bmc will pay more than europcar for him.

Dunno. A couple fo years at BMC might be useful experience for them, then back to a French team as undisputed leader. I'm still not sure I believe this though. Can't see the French teams letting him go.

Why would Hushovd join BMC when Gilbert (who also wants to win GW and RVV) is there?Aside from that aspect, i have doubts that BMC can finance Gilbert, Hushovd and Evans at the same time. Think they are going for both but will only sign one of them.

I highly doubt Gilbert cares all that much for Gent-Wevelgem. Besides, Hushovd always sucks at the Ronde van Vlaanderen. He'll have no problem doing domestique work for Gilbert there. Thor wants to be leader in Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix. Nothing else. Gilbert also had no problem working for Greipel at Gent-Wevelgem this year.

And Gilbert and Hushovd would be a perfect combo for a race like Milan-San Remo. A bit like Filippo Pozzato and Tom Boonen/Paolo Bettini in Milan-San Remo 2006 :)

Evans is 34. Voeckler is 32. I'm not sure BMC would be a significantly different situation then Europcar in terms of where he'd rank in leadership, or when he'd get his shot to "take over". He'd just possibly get more money.

It might be a problem if he had eyes for non-stage races... say to lead at the Ardennes or something. I have no idea if he's got aspirations like that though.

He and Gilbert are friends and training buddies so that probably won't be any problem. Gilbert is more RVV and Hushovd is Roubaix which Gilbert usually skips because of AGR. The problem would be if Gilbert wants to win all the monuments and wants to win San Remo and Roubaix.

It says in that link that their bid for Gilbert has failed and that they're now after Nibali (can't see it myself).

I'm surprised Katusha have let Silin go. What are their plans for next year?

gilbert at bmc is not 100%.katusha will get menchov i think, the russian government is putting pressure on tchmil to find a tour winner.

That would make sense on a sporting/nationalist level, but don't Menchov and Tchmil have a really bad relationship?
