the most overrated rider of 2010 and proven that in 2011, useless, pure itt guy

Struggling to see how this move will be of great benifit to Porte. With riders like Wiggins, Thomas, EBH and now Fromme in the team where exactly does he fit in?
I guess it would have been the same no matter what team he signed with, with the exception of GreenEdge. I thought that may have been his best fit. I wonder how hard they tried to get him?
At any rate, he really needs to put some decent results on the board this year (beside time trials I mean).

Good to see that after all those arguments with people who knew porte was going to be a multi gt winner, and ridiculed the idea that he wouldnt, because "Sassi said so", much of the forum now agrees Richie is not a stage racer.

Having said that he does have pottential in other aspects of cycling and is already a world class tter.

Another one at Sky now.

They really want that 2012 Tour ttt then.

I hope there is no ttt though.

To be fair to Porte he crashed on one the early stages of the Giro and struggled with the effects of it so I don't think that the Giro should be used as an indication of his (lack of) climbing ability.

Was thinking he might go to some stage races where Wiggins and presumably Froome arent racing. However, i think Sky still have Michael Rogers as well to do stage races. Assuming Cav turns up at Sky as well then maybe Porte will find himself doing a lot of Bert Grabsch style work, riding on the front for long periods. I dont think Porte has much experience in the later stages of a lead-out but then i dont think Sky need another man for that.

He'll ask for the Froome treatment :p

Good signing for them, I'm a bit surprised that he didn't go to Greenedge as he seems to be precisely the sort of rider they're lacking, and he's a young Aussie.

He has, I imagine, been contacted and promised a nice salary already last year by Sky but couldn't get out of his Saxo-contract.

Probably explains why he has done so few results this year.
I e
1. Riis is dissappoint.
2. Therefore he is domestique in two GTs (volountarily to get better at lasting 3 weeks?) and CAS gets the last.
3. He is probably not that motivated to do well when he got a new contract secured.

That's my theory anyways. He is a good signing but is not yet amongst those that could be called GT-hopefuls. That may change now.

Porte should add and not reduce weight! The only strength he has is great aerodynamics, so focus on the ITT, add some muscle power and pray that Martin&Cance pick different races. If you cant climb at 62kg...forget your gc dreams.

I not sure it is the weight as where it sits, being an old triathlete his upper body is too developed

Stage racer perhaps. But then it would have to be in a week long race with parcours like this years Paris-Nice, and look how he did this year.

In what race was it this year he had to get off his bike to get over a climb?

Also, how much time did he in fact lose in the mountains in last years Giro? 18-19 minutes?

I'm just saying that I think he's massively overrated. Look at this years results. I'm really curious as to what his goals have been. 22nd in Paris-Nice losing 10 minutes in a race that fits him like nothing else? Almost last in Pais Vasco. Almost last in Romandie. Nowhere in the Giro. Nowhere in the Tour.

Also, I'm curious as to how Porte is an aspring stage racer when Martin and Pinotti aren't stage racers:

What have Porte shown in stage races besides doing well in the ITT?

he hasn't had a great year, I agree. But he did climb decently in the giro. He is a bit overrated imo .

The key word in my sentence is 'aspiring'. Aspiring doesn't mean he is one. I still strongly disagree about Martin & Pinotti being a stage racers. Like I have said many times, just because you can do a good tt doesn't mean you are a stage racer.

Believe that both froome and cummings are leaving sky and going to the same team. Not sure which team though. Deals done before vuelta.

Would be really surprised if Cummings left. and would be very surprised if Froome had a deal before the Vuelta

but then the way this transfer season is going anything could happen. starting to look like everyone will just end up on one massive merged team anyway.
