I can't decide if that's good or bad for Portuguese cycling. It needs recognisable names now Broco, Cardoso and Mestre are gone, but not the same old ones that caused the lack of opportunities for Portuguese riders coming through in the first place.

Funnily enough, even the young guns are running away. Fábio Silvestre to Leopard-Trek continental, António Carvalho(?) e Joni Brandão (he will not retire after all!) to Burgos=>according to Jornal Ciclismo

So on next year's Volta, we'll have a fierce battle beetween two contenders...from the same team:eek: The choice beetween the two on the road might be the most interesting thing coming out of this transfer, racing-wise.

unfortunately burgos is usually the final step before retirement for young riders

Bunch of guys who got screwed in the Liberty Seguros farce last year, nowhere left to go in U23 cycling, but no new Portuguese teams to take them. Makes complete sense to run away. I don't blame them, I just don't like the situation that's created it.

glad to see joni brandão won't retire he did a great volta this year and seems to have some talent, i wish vitor rodrigues would come back as well.

I think with all his top10s in GT TTs he's a bit above that group. Or at least at the top end, ahead of Nibali, Schleck, Gesink and those types.

Okay. I don't think Samuel Sanchez will be much better than Schleck in the Tour's first TT. He used to be a better time trialist than he is now, IMO. Or, at least, a more consistent one. Gesink owned him at Pais Vasco, for example:

Re: next year's Tour. Unlike most people, I don't think it's a time trialists course per se. The course does suck, but it's more selective than most give it credit for, IMO. Van den Broeck could potentially top-5 as well, and his time trials haven't even been good lately.

And what's the difference with trying to win, in this case? Evans chasing him certainly looked every bit as desperate.

Naww man, never has any cyclist shown this dedication and such intelligent riding. I mean Evans really won the Tour where he lost 2 minutes..

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Evans looked desperate before he started the chase. He certainly tried to win, however, by taking time in any stage he could have, unlike Schleck. On the way to Gap, for example. That was not trying not to lose.

I don't think Andy Schleck thought he was going to win the Tour when he launched that attack. Frank Schleck's explanation seems plausible to me.

Cyclingfever has Dani Moreno to Androni. When did that happen? Anyone know if GediminasBagdonas is staying at An Post? Frustrated not to know what's happening with all the Geox riders yet, I bet they are too.

Ah, cyclingfever must have made a mistake, Francisco Moreno signed. Link.

I think Medhi Sohrabi will do good in races like Dwars door Vlaanderen, Driedaagse van de Panne, Omloop het Volk, Tour du Haut-Var, etc

It will still be intersting as a measure of how big the level difference is between racing in Europe and in Asia.

problem is that sohrabi is the type of rider that nearly every european rider is. allround fast, flat, itt and good shorter climbs. he excells in asia with that where the level of competition is lower. for instance a maarten tjalingii in asia could win as much as sohrabi but in europe is regular rider. sohrabi would be something like that. but climbers in iran are different they have relative high level and live and race in altitude like 3000 metres is no exception. and in europe there aren't many strong climbers in large numbers. that will be more interesting
