No. They could've bought guys like Rujano, Niño, Baez, Betancur etc. - extremely talented climbers.

They are traditionally a team made of attacking climbers - buying old Russian, Slovenian and German riders destroys everything Euskaltel once stood for...

Ag2r 2012 = Euskaltel 2013

What a shame.

Serebryakov, this old Russian - currently in his first pro season.
Niño? Victor? Or even Libardo? Now those are really young guys... :p

They could've - but they didn't have money for them.

So they had to go around the other way of avoiding drop and they suceeded. And some of those riders are quite intresting.

Do you prefer then if Euskaltel ceased at all ? Becuase they were close to this year...

With the new budget, they have more than enough money.

Marek Rutkiewicz as new Euskaltel rider?

...

The new Euskaltel belongs in a fantasy cycling game - not in the World Tour.

There aren't 15 let alone 18 teams which are worth of WT status so to single Euskaltel out is silly.

If they are top15, or in the top3 of the remainder - they will be WT (alongside such esteemed teams as Argos and Lotto). That's all there is to it.

Nariyuki Masuda, that Cannondale (Liquigas) signs, is the Japan Pro Tour leader. Ok, it isn't much relevant, but it's good to know :D

F****** UCI system,Euskatel will be just like any other team:(

Yeah. Euskaltel should get a license no matter what. The only team with a soul, until this year. Honestly, cycling is becoming so terrible for a few years now

So the deadline for announcing signings is tomorrow. Are we expecting any big news? Saxo and Argos have both hinted that they still have points coming.

An ok sprinter, but nothing like his brother, bye bye
With Hutarovich also coming to AG2R, the best he's gonna get is being lead out for Eugeni i'm afraid.

Marek Rutkiewicz (CCC) is the 8th new Euskaltel rider.

While Vrečer has shown some good quality in decent-level races, this is the only signing to have actually done some proving of themselves in WT races. And while rumours of his dodginess have been around for years, there are far more dodgy riders who've picked up top level rides anyway.

I agree with the comment about the sport losing its soul like this though. Though to be fair, if the Spanish economic crisis hadn't killed their national calendar to a great extent (death of Alcobendas, Aragón, Comunitat Valenciana, Subida a Urkiola, Circuito Montáñes and standalone Subida al Naranco, reduction to one day of Vuelta a La Rioja, to two days of the Vuelta a Murcía, to three days of Asturias and Castilla y León) they might have picked up enough points in their domestic races.

The new Euskaltel really is a monster born from the points system. They've exchanged their mediocre riders without points for mediocre riders with points.

This is so sad.

Euskaltel let go of Txurruka who's the epitome of the team and get in, no disrespect, some unknown Greek rider who represents the epitome of the UCI points system.

Something is very wrong. Fix it.
