I just wasn't sure why he would be considered a loss for Liquigas - I don't doubt getting a national champ is a bigger deal on the US circuit.

omfg, what is Riis doing? Sitting with his head up his wazoo counting pennies?

speaking of... how much of a budget increase did the addition of Tinkoff Bank actually prompt?

Riis is wasting russian money in marginal gains:p

Yeah, I just thought he got smarter, but it seems he just is a cheap azz, or hangs on to his idea how much a rider is worth...

But if you want someone today, you have to pay the price, and this time I can hardly believe he don´t have the money, both Christensen and Tinkov said they would chip in if necessary, also above the sponsorship.
I must admit Kiryienka was one signing I was sure Riis had made.
But let´s wait for confirmation before we start the 100 days of grief... :D

Well, you would assume half, Saxo pays in the area of 9 - 10 million euros, estimated, I would guess Tinkoff do almost the same, so a budget around 16 - 18 million euros today would be my guess.

That would make them the highest budget team in Pro Cycling in 2012 ?

I think you overestimated it a little. BMC budget is around 16 Million, same with KAtusha and Astana. Rabo has 15 million, but splits it with women and Rabobank B too. RSNT believed to be around 15-14 too_OPQS, Sky and GE ( with Orica as new sponsor ) have around 11 million.

Didn't see that one, Wow Sky is really going to be strong next year

They won't win a thing of importance though. Wiggins is still smoking his pipe and drinking some Scottish whisky.

Eh, it was always more likely. In fact, I am not really sure where the rumor about going to Riis came from apart from the past connection with Tinkoff.

I always liked him now but now I hate him. Sky is evil.

Where do you get those numbers from? I got Sky at 21 million in 2011 according to this link. And they aren't the biggest team out there. Saxo at 18 might not even make them top 5. But I agree with Nilsson below me that Saxo's budget is highly overrated and Riis has a lot less money to play with than we think.

I'm starting to think that Tinkov taking over half of Saxo's sponsorship (let's say the old Sungard part, plus some extra pocket money maybe) is probably closer to the truth.
