That's a hell of a team NFTO are putting together. As they've signed a postman (Ryan Bevis), they have my unconditional support :)

Possibly old news, but Chris Opie has signed for Rapha Condor. Yanto Barker is still without a team though:confused:

Yanto held out for UK Youth scraping a last minute sponsor, as did Bialoblocki, Horton and Rob Partridge - also without a deal for 2014 yet.

So now that it's past October 23rd can WT teams still sign/renew riders without a contract for 2014? Seems like Cannondale, Lapmre, Orica, Europcar and Saxo still have a lot of roster space. Are there any deadlines coming up? A few more questions...

-Any news on Seeldraeyers, he looked good at Austria but I havn't heard anything about his future. Too bad no room at Omega.
-Has Enrique Sanz renewed with Movistar or signed with Caja? I'm seeing conflicting stories about that.
-Did JJ Lobato ever sign with Cofidis?
-Any confirmation on Grega Bole, cyclingfever has a rumor that he's ending his career?
-Finally, whats the deal with Champion system, I heard they might not fold and hardly any of their riders have found a new team?

1) Teams can sign with free riders any time of the year. Just think Petacchi as an example. Or Rogers. Sometimes riders are even signed in January.

2) Sometimes there's quite some time between the signing of a contract and the official announcement.

Riders can be signed up till 31st December. Free Riders can sign all year.

The Ocotober 23 deadline is one to register X amount of riders for the season ahead ( so you have enough riders in your teams to compete in WT which is 23 I believe. ) So you only need 23 riders at this point ;)

Officially 19. Yes. They don't have to say they extended with every single rider or so I believe.

I may be wrong, but it may not be 23, it's an X number signed by 23rd - I am sure of that. However teams can still sign riders if they have space till 31st December.

That was me who said that and I'm not certain I'm right having looked into it a bit further. The one deadline which is certain is 20th October and that's in order to register your top 10 points scorers with the UCI (under contract for 2014) and that's part of what makes up a team's ''Sporting Value Ranking''.

It's true that each World Tour team must have a minimum number of 23 riders but I can't find any deadline by which that amount of riders is required to be registered with the UCI. You'd imagine that it would make sense that as part of the application for a WT license that a team must show the UCI the contracts of that minimum number of riders required but I can't say for certain that's the case. There must be some sort of deadline but I'm not sure if it's been made public.

EDIT - Found the relevant information on Page 96 of the UCI's Cycling Regulations!

The documents required for the audit will also include all the contracts signed with riders. The number of these contracts, approved by the auditor, must be at least 10 by 1st October and 15 by 20th October. All the contracts, numbering at least 23, must be submitted to and approved by the auditor no later than 1st December.

The budget and bank guarantee to be submitted by 1st October must take account of all of the riders that the UCI ProTeam or applicant intends to recruit

So there it is. By 20th October, a team hoping to be in the World Tour must have 15 riders under contract for 2014 and registered with the UCI (at this stage the 10 riders with the highest number of points will form part of that team's 2014 Sporting Value Ranking). That number of registered riders must rise to at least 23 by 1st December. There must be some provision for riders signed after 1st December, in addition to the minimum number of 23. I'll try and find what that is.

No hurry this year, buyers market. Every week prices drop. Horner will sign for 150K in December.
Horner's UCI points become worthless after the deadline for any team. 5 times less is dirt cheap:p

Looks like OFM are going to boss the Portuguese calendar next year. They may have lost Alejandro Marque to Movistar, but they've kept Gustavo César, and now strengthen with the confirmation of the signings of Ricardo Vilela and Arkaitz Durán.

Efapel will probably get a clear leader though with Ricardo Mestre.

Davide Malacarne extends with Europcar.

Niemiec stays with Lampre.

That was totally unexpected...I was almost sure he was switching team...well good for Europcar, a pure domestique and a very helpful one.

Lobato actually wins races against weaker opposition. He performs consistently at his assumed level, unlike Rojas, who will always be 4th-8th regardless of the field.

For the team's designated sprinter, 2 wins in cr.p races isn't exactly great. But yeah, it's not like Rojas is any better.

It's just that Rojas would place 4-6 in the sprint no matter if it is the Tour de France or Tour de Hainan.

I hope the cause of Trek to do not renew Horner wouldnt be to sign Hondo :p:D

Of course Danilo is a good rider, better that most people think, but he is almost 40, and Horner could achieve more important goals today.
