Benetton should drop the F1 sponsorship and spend all the cash on a grade A Italian cycling team. Excellent opportunity right now.

Ryo Hazuki said:why? there are no italian top riders anymore and nobody in italy cares about cycling anymore. in the days of pantani and cipo it would've made sense, not anymore. besides benetton are international more than italian

And Colombia sponsored a mixed Colombian - Italian team with Savio as far as rember correctly.
Maybe it's not a that bad idea to merge/mix with another/existing WT team and get Uran/Henao with bigger budget, instead of hopless lonely projects like the one with Corti. They could still add the likes of Atapuma, Chaves, Duarte and even Infantino/ Acevedo to that list.
Betancur already is on board with AG2R and Quintana with Moviestar. Would be shame while atm we're getting as much Colombian (climbing) prospect as we had in Italy about 10 years ago, there's no strong Colombian team in the peloton.
That while 10 years ago, where Colombian cycling - except Botero, Cardenas etc - was straight botom out we had Colombia - Sella Italia which at least was strong & present at the Giro during those years.
And as far as I remeber, the deal between Gianetti & Venzuela was cancelled, because they South American had no faith in Gianetti and wanted self-control about the team managment. Can't blame them for that. I won't trust Gianetti & Fernandez either.

Libertine Seguros said:Cost of WT over ProConti is pretty prohibitive, and at the moment they're able to get invites to every race they want to and have been in that position for the last five years, originally with Visconti, then with Pozzato, and now with Gatto in classics, Chicchi in flat races, and Garzelli/di Luca/Santambrogio in stage races. I'm sure they can buy in a couple of decent sized Italian names with enough name recognition to continue that even if some of them leave.

They should take over Germany's already existing WT team, Argos-Shimano.Bavarianrider said:Bianchi- Alpecin to takeover Vacansolei, this guy being involved, you heard it here first.![]()
