From which number? I don't speak norweigan, but it seems to say he made 6.2 million kroner in 2012, which is 700000 at todays exchange rate, which is more or less what i'd expect.
The 6.2 refers to EBH Holding. Further down the article:

Etter det avisen erfarer betaler Team Sky Edvald Boasson Hagen rundt 13 millioner kroner i året. Lønnen er prestasjonsbasert, og avhenger bare av egne prestasjoner.

Which would make it 1.66M €

Movistar should really find the funds for Quintana in Valverde's salary instead of getting rid of Costa.

garmin keep getting riders that just don't have it

Garmin are a relatively small budget team and they simply don't have the money to sign established stars often, if ever. But in this case, I don't see how Slagter is a bad signing, unless they are paying him a team leader's wage. You can't fill a 30 rider roster with guys who seriously expect to win big races. Slagter strikes me as a more than useful domestique who may also be capable of picking up an occasional win himself. Most teams would be happy to have him.

That's good to hear. Glad that Trek is looking to bring in some young guys that can bring in some good results for the team. They just need to phase out all or most of the old guys that can't get the results anymore.

They have a bigger budget than Movistar...

According to some chart (of perhaps dubious provenance) that was posted here a couple of years ago, Garmin and Saxo were right down the bottom of the WT budget league along with the French teams. And Vaughters is forever pointing out that teams like Sky can pay domestiques money that Garmin's leaders would love to get.

That all fits with their signing history - ie pretty much nobody who was already established as an upcoming star or as a regular winner still at their peak has ever signed with them - so I tend to believe it. They The only partial exception I can think of was Hushovd when they got the chance to pick over the bones of the Cervelo Test Team. Their leaders are almost always guys they brought through.

Perhaps Movistar are another lowish budget team but one that overperforms in a huge way. They are, after all, in a very strong position in other, non-budget related ways, as the last big team standing in a drastically weakened Spanish domestic scene and as by far the biggest Spanish speaking team. They have a huge natural "catchment area" for young riders. And of course they signed Quintana and Costa young, which is down to being smart rather than having money. I have to admit though, that I always thought of them as a mid budget team rather than a low budget one.

It's worth noting though that some teams figures are two years older than those of others (Movistar for instance have a 2011 figure listed), and also that the number is for salaries only, not total budget. Still interesting though and it points towards a "two speed" budget race, with the like of Sky and BMC having twice the cash of the like of Movistar or Garmin.

On another note, I hadn't actually realised just how important their dominance of the Spanish season is to Movistar's (astonishing) win tally. 57(!) wins over the last two seasons, of which 29 were in Spain.
