Anyway, actual transfer news: Belkin sign Nick van der Lijke, an espoir from Rabo U23. A bit of a leftover I guess, since the biggest talents were already signed, but maybe he could turn out to be a surprise.

Apart from van Baarle he's this year's best RB3 rider. So why just "leftover"?

Because had the Rabobank team still existed, or had they found a sponsor earlier in the year, they'd have gone for Van Baarle and Olivier and that would have been it.

This is not to say that Van der Lijke is a bad rider, far from it. He's actually progressing well from year to year.

Froome decides to take his millions in earnings from 2013, dump Cound, and spend it all on Euskaltel instead. Having a soft spot for guys who crash a lot, he will own the team and ride for them. And teach all the carrots to zig-zag up hills instead of that silly straight-line riding they've been doing.

:D :p

why at that particular time?

To get ahead of Euskaltel's Aug 15 announcement deadline.

Hmm... I'm thinking the most likely scenario- Froome will reject the English cycling establishment, reveal he will now have a Kenyan license, will sign for MTN-Quebka, and lead a wave of Kenyans & Ethiopans who will come out of nowhere and start winning everything?

I've gotta be close or something.

It appears the "shocking news" got lost somewhere along the way

I am starting to think someone really is just trolling . . .
