What about Jonathan tiernan-locke ? And what about the rumours of chris horner joining a bigger squad?
Can't see how any serious team would be interested in Horner and JTL is way to Toxic, he might find his way onto some small local Conti squad but the way he went out doesn't bode well for any real future in the sport

One thing is for sure, Horner ain't coming to Portugal. Recent regulations limited the amount of riders aged above 28 a team can send to the Volta to three (later 'rectified' to 60% of the team having to be younger than that). Needless to say, that percentage is reserved to the corpses of Rui Sousa and the likes, i.e, Vitor Gamito coming back at the age of 60 just 'cos.

Do you have a source for that? 2.1 elite races can't have any age restrictions. There are certain restrictions for Continental teams (UCI rule 2.17.005), but not for elite races in general.

Correction: 60% of the actual team, not the squad sent to the Volta, must be under the age of 28.

UCI regulations article 2.17.005: For continental teams, the majority of the riders must be under the age of 28. However, the national federation may lower this age threshold. This article does not apply to women’s teams.

Thanks for the heads up.

Dumoulin and Barguil sign for 3 more years with Giant-Alpecin (until 2018)

after Barguil was unhappy with his Tour non-selection in 2014 it seems all is fine now. a big 3 year contract is good.

Well, eventually it worked quite well for him. Barguil let off steam twice at the Vuelta with success.

So maybe it's something like: “They know what's good for me.“

Edith asks if Giant sponsors the team until 2018? I thought their sponsorship expires at the end of 2016 and that a big Dutch cooperation might be interested.

At the same time, they let go DS Guiberteau, which I presume, was one of the closest people to him on the team, so I don't know if this could affect him.

The cat is in although Tinkoff Saxo haven't officially announce that Oscar Gatto has signed for them. They should shortly as the team for next year is expected to meet towards the end of October in Croatia.

They have 23 riders under contract so far, so they should sign two more because 25 is the minimum I believe. Gatto + one other, it better be a good climber

Maybe they could shop at Team Colombia.

I don't believe they'll sign a climber though... as I mentioned earlier the focus is on Sagan who will lose Matti, Michael M., and Chris. But now that Team Colombia has freed its riders, maybe they might chase after something good but cheap.

Hopefully, they will have more than 25 riders next season. They have always been a team with many riders. 30 the last season.

Maybe Uncle Oleg is in financial difficulties?

I'd sign an experienced classics rider for Sagan like Leukemans. And a couple of younger climbers for Contador. One of them could be Torres for example.

Tour team: Cav, Renshaw, Eisel, Farrar, EBH, Sioutsou, Cummings, Kudus, Meyer?
No Farrar. Meintjes instead.

Meintjes left for Lampre. Thats a slightly disappointing development regarding that team.

Even though national teams are a thing of the past, trade teams more representative of something, that would be nice.
