Funny how Lotto is signing lots of mediocore talents while the big talents like Oomen espace them lol
Don't forget Dylan Groenewegen. Yeah, sure they'd love to have signed Oomen... but the Slovenian ski jumper is probably a bigger talent than him.

Vermeulen is also their second choice behind Craddock, but at least he's more interesting than Chad Haga or Caleb Fairly or Michael Mediocrity.

Well, Oomen to Giant has a lot to do with the fact that his DS at Rabo Devo (Van Dongen), is also going to Giant as a DS. I don't know what other big talents you are referring to, but the fact is LottoNL has a very limited budget and I think they have actually done quite well given those financial restraints. Groenewegen is a good signing, who will deliver some results next year I believe. Guys like Vermeulen, Roglic, Bouwman and Lammertink have a lot of potential, and although they might not yet deliver next year, signing them is definitely worth the risk with an eye to the future. Battaglin, Campenaerts and Castelijns are all decent riders as well who probably did not cost too much. We'll have to see if Battaglin will perform next year (I have my doubts about that), but Campenaerts and Castelijns will be useful domestiques for sure.

In the end it all comes down to money, and if you don't have it (and LottoNL really have a very small budget for a WT team), you have to do the best you can.

Well, gloin22 does have a point when he says that the biggest (Dutch) talents evade them... Slagter, Van Poppel, Van Baarle, Oomen were all on the market and none of them signed for Lotto Jumbo. Surely money wasn't the main issue there, maybe with Van Poppel or Slagter but I don't think so.

I do agree that with the money they have, they've had a pretty good transfer window so far. Roglic could prove to be a bigger signing than most of the 'transfers of the season' that Cyclingnews have lined up. As could Groenewegen, with a little luck.

What's it with them being - self-proclaimed - Africa's team, while they haven't signed a single African as of today? In fact, they let their biggest African talent leave for Lampre of all teams..

70% of the team's riders used to be African, now it's not even half of them. I really do not like where this is going.

An over-reaction - Sky is struggling to get 10 British riders,OGE barely makes 13 and Dimension Data will have 12.

At the same time, Africa is a whole continent and they've not got arguably the best rider on an African licence (Meintjes, who just left them) and they've not got the best rider from Africa (Richard Virenque... I kid, I kid. Chris Froome). The cycling scenes of Morocco and Algeria wildly differ from those of South Africa, which in turn differ from those in Eritrea, Rwanda, and so on, as opposed to Sky and Orica who are picking from a single market. The counterargument is that of course the UK and Australian scenes are more developed and there are more riders of the requisite standard for them to choose from (notwithstanding that you could argue that many of the UK's biggest young talents are not always best served with Sky; it may be suiting Rowe just fine, but the Yates twins have undeniably done better out of the relative freedom in hilly and intermediate mountain races with the less GC-focused Orica than they would have done being stuck domestiquing with Sky for a couple of years), whereas Dimension Data have to do more work scouting the talents and developing them and don't have the same resources as a megabucks team like Sky.

But how much scouting does the Scot who runs MTN/Dimension Data really do? He tends to fall back on Anglosaxon has beens, preferably sprinters.

JLT did the Bay Classic criteriums and Herald Sun Tour, Tour de Korea, Tour du Loir-et-Cher, Grand Prix des Marbriers and Tour de Normandie. You might also count An Post Ras. They appear to have applied for the USA Pro Challenge and Tour de Langkawi but failed to get invitations.

By contrast I believe Wiggins did Tour du Loir-et-Cher, Tour de Normandie, GP Cerami, Flèche du Sud, and Abu Dhabi Tour.

-Gene, Boudat and Thevenot make the transition to Direct Energie, Mederal, Cousin and Craven do not.
-Ex Soudal stagiaire Xandro Meurisse, who had top 10s in the Tour of Britain and Boucles de la Mayenne this year, is leaving An Post for Vastgoedservice.
-Ben Jacques-Maynes is retiring
-Ex-Cannondale rider Matthias Krizek is moving to Roth-Skoda from Simplon Wels (maybe he is the experienced rider cited above?
-Max Walscheid, an impressive stagiaire with Giant-Alpecin, will be joining the team for the next two seasons. Team Joker's Sindre Skjøstad Lunke, who came 7th at the Tour de l'Avenir this year, has also been signed, despite apparently already having a contract for next year.

Well the has been signings have helped getting them wildcards into big races which they didn't squander, talking about last season signings well, they made sense, they got them at bargain basement prices and Goss was an understandable failure but Eddy Bos did well. This years signings are another step up and for all who say Cavendish is a has been clearly haven't noticed that he won races this season and will do so again next season, he's not dominant like he used to be but that's thanks to others stepping up there game and him not being as quick as he used to be.
