Mentjes to Lampre-Merida

Big news that, especially from a South African stand point. Also maybe shows that MTN - well. DiData wont be WT next year as hoped.

Most rumours about MTN going WT involve Cavendish and a sponsor he brings, so limited room for Meintjes there anyway, and it also illustrates the fact that if Cavendish is responsible for the status of the team, isn't he entitled to at least 7 of the TDF 9? And if so, the one or two Africans he allows on the journey will feel very token and beside the point.

Niemec is old and declining. Modolo has won 2 GT stages for the first time in his career.
That leaves us with Rui Costa, who is indeed having a down year (nothing scary mind you, he's still 12th in the UCI ranking).
But then you've got Bonifazio and Cimolai who both progressed, Durasek and Plaza with important WT wins, Koshevoy showing flashes during this Vuelta

I'd like to agree. But can't see where, at least races Meintjes would likely (want to) lead. What's in your mind?
Let's start with Giro d'Italia. Lampre is not exactly oozing with GT riders.
And then a plethora of WT one week spring races. Tirreno or Paris-Nice, Catalunya, Pais Vasco, Romandie, you name it. MTN wasn't invited to most of these races. Sure Orica could've been better, but there aren't many WT teams where he would have more opportunities.

Saw an article linked at twitter suggesting that Andrej Kasjetskin would be interested in taking over Europcar and rename it Baikonour. The credibilty seems somewhat quistonable so to say...

Bonifazio left, to join Guercilena. Big loss for Lampre.

That Etixx team sounds great because with this team they probably have to go into attack mode. With Kwiat as a good sprinter they always had a good reason to try to neutralize the race (like AGR this year when Martin was in the Nibali group and didnt want to work)

What's your point? He's their main sprinter. They would have expected 10+ wins from him this year or at least match last year's with 9. He has 3.

At AGR, yes. At Fleche, LBL and Lombardia they can leave Martin to go for it on the last climb. Hopefully they won't do that and will instead use Alaphillipe and Martin in a split strategy, with one going early and one waiting.

Trek Americanising themselves is clearly necessary though: for an American-registered team to have one American rider (Busche) is ridiculous.

Thinking a team that is registered in the US must also have a certain amont of American riders, now that is ridiculous

Name a WT team with fewer riders from the country they're registered in.

(You can't. Next fewest is Tinkoff with four, and they will be increasing the number of Russians next year.)

Your point being? The only reason Trek is registered as an 'American team' is because the sponsor is American, but apart from that they have no American roots. They're an international team and - unlike teams like FDJ, Lotto BE and NL - don't have the philosophy of building a team around riders of a certain nationality.

If Cannondale could sponsor an Italian team, then Trek didn't have to change from Luxembourg registration, but they chose to, and are not currently backing that up with American riders on their team. That is the point. You're the only one expressing opposition here.

Stop trying to be a wiseass. You fail miserably at it.
