According to A Bola, Silvestre is to leave Trek and is pondering on abandoning the sport.
Well he certainly never found his feet on WT but ending his career seems a bit harsh unless there are other issues we don't know about

Thanks for the info BigMac - was wondering about Silvestre for a while and had been searching for info online but found none. IMHO Trek have completely misused him, only as a domestique in races that barely suit him, and never as a stage hunter or classics rider. For example he was in the lead group at the recent GP de Fourmies and Brussels Cycling Classic, I think those are the kind of races that really suit him.

He probably has not had a very good experience at Trek, if you follow his Facebook he sometimes seemed a bit overwhelmed and like he was homesick a lot. But like trevim said, abandoning the sport seems harsh, he could go back to continental level for a while. There he would certainly kill it, like he did with Leopard CT, and then maybe give WT another shot in a few years if the opportunity should arise.

NP Christian. The problem, as others have stated, is the decadent condition of the Portuguese scene. He specifically mentions the salaries issue. There are riders who haven't received a penny after 5 months. And I can assure you that's the majority of teams. Here's all ran by mobsters, and as sad as the idea itself is, I would do the same as Fabio If I didn't get an offer from outside of Portugal.

You must be clairvoyant!

but I doubt it would have helped in this situation.

Mark Cavendish & Mark Renshaw too MTN-Qhubeka, so expect the has-been leadout train to be Farrar, Boasson Hagen, Renshaw and Cavendish.

Mohoric and Consonni confirmed to Lampre. Boy van Poppel extends with Trek. Tomasz Marczyński rumoured to Soudal.

Odd addition for Loto Soudal?

He's had a couple of decent GC wins for a lower tier rider (Tour de Maroc and Black Sea) and the national road race but he'll be 32 next year and it really doesn't make much sense to me.

UCI points maybe?

I don't know the system well enough to give a definitive answer, but I imagine teams like Jumbo and Garmin are at much more threat, and between Greipel and Boeckmans you probably have loads of UCI points without resorting to wacky signings like this.

Indeed, I don't think LTS needs the points. They had a great season thus far so I don't think it is a signing like Sohrabi a few years ago.

Re: Re:

Tyler Farrar as a leadout man? That should work out well. :D

Farrar will be on the b-team for sure, very much doubt he will be in the same races with Cav. Too foreign and dangerous for Cav to want included.
