Something has to be really wrong with you to sign with that team or you are horribly scared to go a team that does not speak english... oh wait, he is riding for Caja Rural at the moment, so he should be fine in a non-english speaking team. I really do not understand his decision.

Lots of riders have developed well at Garmin/Cannondale over the years and they have a record of overperforming their status as one of the smaller WT teams in terms of winning big races - up until the season before last they won a monument or GT every year for four years. Cannondale have been poor for a season and a half. It's not at all a bad place for a young climbing prospect to go if you take a very slightly longer term perspective. They can offer him a great calendar and as many leadership roles as his is ready for.

It's actually a clever move if he does continue to improve. He is after all moving on to a team with a lot of good climbers and no outstanding leader. Get ahead of one or two of Uran/Rolland/Talansky in the queue and suddenly he's in a very good place.

It is clear that they are doing a disastrous job when it comes to climbers in last two years. To be fair, it shouldn't be hard to get ahead of these three guys because they were really bad in this year, but it is very likely that he might become really bad next as well.

They don't have that good of a record at developing riders, of those Monument and GT wins all came from Martin, Hesjedal and Vansummeren with only Martin being a rider they developed. I do agree the last season and half has been very poor which can't all be blamed on budget, something needs to change back of house that's for sure.

I do agree that it's not the worst place for Carthy to go at this stage of his career, he won't have a heap of pressure on him whilst getting opportunities to ride for himself that he wouldn't get at other teams.

I don't think so. In this years TdF he tried to grab some stage wins however I think that's because Copeland wanted Meintjes to fight for the top-10. And the Olympic Games + European Road race + Lombardia should be the last objectives that Rui has this season.
To be honest I still hope he joins Dimension Data or a lower tier WT team that as a good staff support specially for training plans.

I would have thought watching him at the Tour this year would of been enough to show you that he's dropped any ideas of being a GT GC contender, decided after last season that he wasn't going to make it as a GC guy over 3 weeks so instead is aiming at 1 day/1 week races and stage hunting in GT's
