Didn't see that one coming, although it's an understandable move. Looking forward to how he will develop as a GC rider and I think he'll get the best chances for that at another team (than Sky).

At least he can improve going to Quick Step.

I thought about this a few days ago, I can't remember any guy who improved anything of notice while in Cofidis.

Taaramäe, Gallopin and Keukeleire were at Cofidis and are more than ok riders. But you're right overall, Cofidis is not the best team at developing promising riders. Good choice from him!

Yes, but while they were at Cofidis, there wasn't any significative improvement of that riders. Mpaybe only Taaramäe improved a bit, but didn't make the jump that was expected for him. As far as I remember, Gallopin and Keukeleire upped their game only when they joined RadioShack and GreenEdge.

That's quite true. I was just trying to save their honor as new-talent developers but it's a lost cause. Good move from Direct Energie about Taaramae btw!

Have Sky got something big planned?

Did it take a lot of money to keep Kwiatkowski?

Is Quintana joining Sky so they need some wage space?

Weird transfer window for Sky so far with Nieve, Kennaugh, Boswell & Landa all leaving the GT depth and no obvious replacements announced or available on the market.

All I've heard is Castroviejo, Bernal and the Russian kid. Anybody else?

They're buying Bernal out of his contract, and they're getting 2 of the hottest prospects for the future. They're starting to plan beyond Froome's time and that's gonna take something else than a gazillion mountain domestiques now.

Sky controlled the Tour with 7 men basically. Thomas crashed out. Henao sucked all Tour, Nieve even broke down at the end, but as a team they were never in trouble. Thomas not crashing and a good Poels and they make just about make up for all of their losses.

Froome/Poels/Thomas/Henao/Kwiat/Castro and rouleurs make for a frightning team.

I think that he's right when it comes to depth regarding several GTs. The remains of the teams are obvioulsy amazing but they could lack a few mountain goats.

Btw, Landa's departure has not been confirmed yet as far as I know.

True...But it will make sense only if Bernal does decide to go to Sky. If he doesn't what will they do at the Giro?
Thomas just can't be the sole leader at sky for the Giro.
They need a tested GT rider who can give them atleast a podium there.
If Landa leaves they have to get Quintana or Contador :)

Bora signed Davide Formolo from Cannondale. Sam Bennett, Schwarzmann, Pfingsten and Selig extend. With Kennaugh and Oss signings they're shaping up to be a very interesting team.

Well Contador is retiring...

I think you can consider Thomas a 'tested GT rider' and he's capable of leading a GT (and pray he won't crash). If Bernal doesn't come, Sky will just buy some other great talents. They don't look like the team to go all-in on Bernal and go for a low profile season if that doesn't work out...

Cannondale leaking riders. Hope not Rigo takes up their whole budget.
Seems like the last of the Italians that made up the Cannondale part of the merger with the Garmin team are just about gone now? All that's actually left in the peloton of what was once Liquigas is the lime green tint to the argyle jerseys.

And that may also be gone for the next year if the rumours about Slipstream getting a new main sponsor are true.

I wonder who are they going to bring in place of the guys who left. So far I haven't seen any rumours apart from 2 young guys from Axeon.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Quintana and Movistar could end their contract early, with a decision coming maybe already early next week.

They claim that Nairo and the team were in dispute about several aspects of his season, for example him wanting to return to Colombia after his narrow Giro defeat, with the team insisting he would stay in Europe.

The most likely destinations mentioned - in case the breakup happens - would be Trek, Astana or UAE - all discussed beforehand.

Now here's the deal: Movistar and Quintana splitting - in these reports - sounds it's more the Team's intent than the rider's. Nairo is reportedly mentioned to earn 3 M € per year, and to buy him out of his contract, Unzué would have to pay him double that money, so 6 M €. Why not just pay him that amount over the next two seasons and keep him around? I don't really see the point in buying him out right now.

Wouldn't rule Quintana out, his old coach is at Sky, they have a great relationship with his agent and with GT's going to eight riders depth is less of an issue

Good point, but just by the way he talks about the Tour , I cant see him giving up on his "Sueno amarillo", which he effectively would have to by joining Sky.

I would say odd. Konig, Majka, Kennaugh,Formolo all top ten guys. Even if they hire 100 top 10s , they will end up with, lets say, top 10s in the GTs. Wouldn't it have been better to improve the classics squad further say with Trentin or any of the QS guys so that Sagan has more probability of victory possibly even the double.

Oss is a massive signing when it comes to helping Sagan. I don't see why you see the signings of Kennaugh and Formolo as odd, Konig might struggle to come back from his issues so Formolo steps in as a top 10 Giro prospect and I'm yet to see that Kennaugh can go top 10 in a GT, 1 week races yes but he looks like being a stage hunter/dom in the GT's.

So again no Landa vs Froome/All @ TdF
