Could be a good move for him, lot of French speakers and a great selection of domestiques.

as much as I like Sky, I´d feel for the brain melting that would follow on the web and over the mountains I see in front of my home. the French cousins would go mad :D
If Pinot went to Sky he’d be joining the likes of Poels, Kwiatkowski, Elissonde and Henao in the mountain train and he knows it. Money would be the only reason.

He'd go for the Giro apparently, so getting really ahead of things I imagine that his schedule would be:

Abu Dhabi, Tirreno, Cataluyna, Alps, Giro, Tour.

Who do we expect to leave Team Sky this year?

Lopez - retire?
Knees - retire?
Intxausti - health problems

Should we trust PCS info, of those riders out of contract, i think the following will probably leave the team:

Deignan: Has fallen down in the pecking order (no Giro) and he is not getting any younger. My guess is Aqua Blue.
Lopez: I guess he is retiring
Intxausti: I guess he is retiring as well due to his health issues. If not, he could go to Murias.

Doubts on Wisniowski, Doull and Dibben, probably 2 of them are leaving. I guess the remaining riders will return on 2019.

Meh, if Pinot goes to sky he'd still be fighting for a leadership spot at the Giro with the likes of Thomas, Poels, Bernal, etc.... and then might find himself working for Froome (if he's racing in 2019).
I hope he stays well away and if he goes to a non-French team, let him go elsewhere, please!
Plus poor Tonton would have a pink fit!

I highly doubt it's true. That article also says A. Yates to Trek is a thing while it's pretty common knowlegde Adam will stay at Orica.

Knees signed a two years extension last fall.

Brailsford mentioned Pinot in 2014, didn’t he, in the “I’d love to win the Tour with a Frenchman” thing.

Seems implausible, but then I said that about Elissonde too. And look at him now.

Sivakov should get his French citizenship pretty soon, so he'll probably also count as a French winner.

That's what the article suggests:

"Finally, the rumors that are heard in Europe indicate that one of the objectives of the SKY to enroll him in the Tour de France, would be to prepare him as head of ranks of this team in the next Giro d'Italia."

Surely he's already got French citizenship? He's lived there almost his whole life. He's Russian in the same way Froome is British. He may switch his sporting nationality though, which is a different thing.

Let me get this straight: Sivakov is a Russian, born in Italy, and raised in France?
Now, that's confusing!

He's french, born to a russian pro cyclist father, but he was born in Italy because his dad was racing for an italian based team that season.
He chose to race for russia for various reasons, but has been for a couple of years due to change his license to french

Well, if his passport says (or at least said) "Russia", then surely he is (or at least was) Russian. Surely the country you're raised in is not what's matters.
Froome was Kenyan until he became British. Haussler was German until he became Australian.

He has a french passport too, is my point

Does Denmark still have that rule where you have to renounce danish nationality if you get another one? That's not normal elsewhere

Haussler flip flopped back and forth, by the way. It made the UCI put in a rule that you have to wait X years to change again after a first change of national team

Plenty of people have more than one passport. And hence more than one official nationality. But they can only have one sporting nationality at any one time.

and changing it comes with a two year ban at the World Championships. So with Innsbruck in sight, it's out of question at the moment.

The rules also say "If a rider acquires an additional nationality, the rider may choose this nationality. This choice must be made, at the latest, when applying for a licence for the second year following the yearof acquisition of the new nationality" though, so if I understand this correctly (as he got his French passport in September 2017 afaik) 2019 would be the last chance for a license change

So he's a French and a Russian, who was born in Italy? Why didn't you just say that? Instead of simply "He's French" just saying "He's French too" might have avoided the confusion. After all; Kung is both Swiss and Liechtensteiner.

I don't include make believe countries

Russia is make-believe? It's certainly pretty big, and officially recognised, for a make-believe country...
What's your definition of a make-believe country?

Seriously, what I mean was that in his words he's french but it was useful for his career to ride for russia. That's all :)

But again, when you started your post up there with simply "He's French" I took it as a correction of my statement about him being Russian. Basically "No, he's not Russian, he's French." Simply writing "He's French too" might have avoided that confusion.

Sorry if it came across that way. He also has russian nationality.

That's the most recent version of the rule that I mentioned above, they tweaked it when Haussler tried to go back to Germany

Yeah, I figured that out eventually. :p

Besides, if he only got French citizenship in 2017 that might explain why he was riding as a Russian before that. I mean, you can't ride for a country you don't actually have citizenship of, can you?
