Movistar is gonna be interesting, they have next to no riders signed past this season. There are a few core riders I don't see leaving (Rojas, Amador, Valverde) but the roster could get quite the overhaul, they need young talent and spanish cycling doesn't offer much thereof aside from Enric Mas. Fortunately guys like Pedrero and Carretero now look like - at least - servicable domestiques. With Landa and Quintana likely out the door, re-signing Carapaz would seem to be priority #1, i'm interested to see where the rest of their budget goes beyond that.

Pello Bilbao and Óscar Rodríguez anothers good mens for spain with not contract.

Granted I'm a big fanboy, but I don't want see Ivan Garcia wind up at Movistar even though he'd be a great signing for them. He needs to go somewhere with a framework for furthering his Development in the classics as well as getting freedom to snipe stage wins on hilly stages.

Valverde has said he's in contract negotiations with them for another 2 year contract. One other core rider I suspect will be back unless he retires is Erviti. He's been a long time trusted friend of Valverde and typically races a similar calendar. I think at this point they'll resign Pedrero and Carretero.

UAE would be a good team for him, need mens for the classics and like to develop young cyclists.

Some transfer gossip from yesterday's @cycling_podcast, Richard Carapaz "may well have agreed to join another team... ...a team that's got quite famously deep pockets" says @richardmoore73

Sporting-wise, Carapaz to Ineos makes no sense, having to compete with Froome, Thomas, Bernal, and god knows who else for GT leadership. If Ineos is even the team, I'd be curious to see if things change if he wins the GIro.

At Ineos Carapaz you will lose all the chances of winning GT. Bernal will lead in GIRO. We still have Theo, Sivakov, Sosa.
For the Tour, Froome, Thomas, 0 opportunities for Carapaz in the GTs. Decision for money ...
Staying at Movistar is much better for your progression.

Froome and Thomas are nearing the end of their peaks so there will be a reshuffle of GT hierarchy at Ineos in the following years. I don't know if it will pan out well for Carapaz but I can see some probability than he can establish himself there as one of their leaders, which may be worth it to have an Ineos-train working for you.

Interesting to see what happens to Movistar, as Carapaz, Quintana and Landa are all rumoured to join other teams and that means they'll need some pretty good signings (or some big breakthroughs among their current riders) to stay at the current level.

Apparently the deal was done prior to the Giro, while I'm sure he's being rewarded quite well he probably left some money on the table.

Probably just a pre-contrat or a verbal agreement. With a gt win his value will go up and Movistar will try everything to keep him. Even Unzue has said that having 2 guys on the podium doesn't really matter as long as the win the Giro (maybe Unzue was talking about the team classification and not the gc :D ). He is willing to throw Landa, who is leaving, under the bus to keep him.
Carapaz is also coached by the woman who is coaching most of their womens team (can't remember her name). If they are willing to pay him good money to be a leader for gts he will probably stay.

Movistar need to keep Carapaz and Landa ...let Quintana go
Valverde is near to the end

For the next year the movistar only has officially:
Marc Soler
Carlos Verona

I think they will renew with:
Alejandro Valverde
Jaime Castrillo
Héctor Carretero
Antonio Pedrero
Lluís Mas
Jorge Arcas
José Joaquín Rojas
Andrey Amador
Eduard Prades
Imanol Erviti
Carlos Barbero
Nelson Oliveira
Jasha Sütterlin
Rafael Valls
Eduardo Sepúlveda
Rubén Fernandes
Richard Carapaz

Almost certain exits:
Nairo Quintana --> Arkéa Samsic, UAE, CCC
Jürgen Roelandts -->has done "nothing" so far, probably go out
Mikel Landa --> Bahrain
Daniele Bennati --> will probably end your career
Carlos Betancur --> will probably go with Quitana to the new team
Winner Anacona --> will probably go with Quitana to the new team

Probable signings:
Enric Mas
Pello Bilbao
David de la Cruz
Óscar Rodríguez
Alex Aranburu

I suspect that with the latest clinic revelations Landa's move to Bahrain might be quite uncertain once again. If I was him I would rather stay at Movistar right now. Especially if Carapaz decides to leave, himself. Preferably Landa should sign-up for Astana again. Since Fuglsang doesn't get any younger and Lopez apparently won't become the new big leader everyone thought him to become after winning the 2016 Tour of Switzerland!

Lopez is still young and I've been very impressed with his performance at the Giro. His mechanicals weren't his fault to my knowledge and he lost most of his time after a pretty epic chase back. Coupled with his podium at the Vuelta and Giro performance last year, you've got a pretty good pedigree at his age. He has the potential to win a GT one day.

It's A good idea, astana have a good team and Lopez not go to tour, so landa lead the team on tour.

Mas go to Movistar for lead the team in GIRO and VUELTA. Carapaz lead on TOUR.

Mas wants Tour leadership. It depends on how he performs this July, but I wouldn't be shocked (if things go well) if he stays and Lefevre upgrades the climbing talent around him. He wants to go where he will be the main GC focus of the team.

Agree with this post - Unless Carapaz, Quintana and Landa all leave Movistar.

With only 2 riders under contract after this season (although we can for all intent and purposes give them Valverde for next year as well) they have some major decisions to make and what direction they really want to take the team in.
I think these three: Jaime Castrillo, Héctor Carretero, Antonio Pedrero are a given to resign. Also would be surprised if Amador and Rojas don't resign. I think Erviti either retires or resigns. He's mentioned retiring over the past 2 years, so I think he's close to retiring, but don't know if he will or if he'll stay for another year. Valverde and Movistar will eventually get the contract where both sides are happy and get it signed.
