the Hog breaks the big story again!!!

http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/2324/Contador-stays-Astana-keeps-license-for-2010.aspx

After months of uncertainty, the Astana cycling team has finally received its ProTour license for 2010. This latest development brings an end to a saga that has covered the headlines in recent months. According to Het Nieuwsblad, the Kazakh formation has fulfilled the International Cycling Union (UCI) requirements, and the news is expected to be confirmed by the UCI ProTour Council later this afternoon.

Among the requirements included a bank guarantee covering Astana’s 15 million euro annual budget. Earlier this week Kazakh Cycling Federation vice-president Nikolai Proskurin indicated that today’s deadline for the 2010 budget payment would be extremely difficult to meet. The Kazakh lashed out at the UCI and RadioShack manager Johan Bruyneel, accusing them of making the ProTour license renewal a process difficult for the Astana team. Bruyneel denied any attempt to sabatoge his former team, and commented that he was in favor of the team renewing their license.

Velonation did that, not you.

Hmm, if Lampre doesn't have a PT license then I wonder what their chances are for getting an invite to the Tour?. Is Petacchi and Cunego enough for them to get an invite?

I don't think they would have been left out as a PT team eventhough their squad isn't the most attractive for the Tour but without a PT license I can see them being in slightly more danger.

Or does the team fold and the riders all transfer to Astana?

Hog, have I ever told you how much I admire your ability to know stuff before everybody else? It is great news. Gerontoshack is going down. Down, down, down.

I don't know, theres nothing better than a self proclaimed insider, who self quotes and congratulates himself on copying and pasting from other sites, makes bold predictions as soon to be revealed facts, then goes very silent when proved very wrong, and who tops it off with constantly resurrecting long dead threads for no good reason, often with posts that don't have any relation to the original thread topic.
Time for a poster of the year award I'd say

Not that he would finish. He would only abandon on the first mountain stage in the Alps anyway. Not sure about the Cobbled Classics, but they should be fine for an invite for the Ardenne Classics, and the the Italian races. IMO they will get an invite for the Vuelta.

I have no idea how Footon-Servetto still have a PT licence.

petacchi is my new hero, its amazing how many races he can miss a season, thats brilliant though he leaves lpr so he can ride on the pro tour then lampre has the licence taken away ... Petacchi is quite good in the hills these days(for a sprinter), he was climbing the bet of all teh sprinters in the giro this year, although all of lpr climbed well :S I wouldn´t have thought they´d have taken lampres licence away I am a bit surprised, I think they definently won´t get into the tdf next year, uci seem to be taking a lot of licences away, maybe it´s a good thing though..

Good signing for Astana with pereiro, looking at the cyclibng news story astana coud have a fairly good team for the tour, although I think they could do with another climber, I dont have great faith De la fuente and oscar will survive when it gets very tough :S..

I'd expect further signings to follow, now that the PT pass is secured.
Astana have a wealth of Grand Tour experience and can now field no less than 3 GT champions. Pretty impressive.
Pereiro? I don't think anyone saw that one coming.
If they had, I think the Shack would have gone for him, instead of Beppu!:D

Why? He tends to finish almost every GT he starts.

Yes, he's one of the best climbers among sprinters, which makes sense, considering he was a climber who turned to sprinting relatively late.
