phanatic said:"The first has to do with the federal investigation into cycling. Last summer, I received a subpoena to testify before a grand jury. Until that moment I walked into the courtroom, I hadn't told a soul. My testimony went on for six hours. For me, it was like the Hoover Dam breaking. I opened up; I told the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. And I felt a sense of relief I'd never felt before -- all the secrets, all the weight I'd been carrying around for years suddenly lifted. I saw that, for me personally, this was the way forward."
That quote really creeps me out. 1984.

This has not turned into a criminal matter. Our actions are either criminal or they are not. The only thing that has changed in the last year or so is that somebody is investigating certain allegations.SuperHuman said:It's very unfortunate indeed that this has turned into a criminal matter and these athletes are forced to turn on each other about matters that occurred years ago, a very sad situation for the sport.

Or just stick to the same tack that the lawyers do, eg everyone is lying except for Armstrong
Epicycle said:The only thing more disingenuous than Lance lying about doping would be him coming clean to "unburden his soul". If one day hell freezes over and he does admit, I have no doubt his decision will be a cold, calculated PR decision filled with crocodile tears.
Polyarmour said:I'm still not sure what this means for Lance. Like most people I have my suspicions but the court requires a greater level of proof than what is being offered by the witnesses. While the amount of hearsay evidence keeps building, at the end of the day a million times nothing still equals nothing. Another proven liar makes allegations about him. So what? Unfortunately Tyler can't prove what was in Lance's fridge or what Lance was injecting... if he was injecting anything at all. Unless someone has some proper physical evidence somewhere the reality is Lance can just keep denying it.
Hearsay is information gathered by one person from another person concerning some event, condition, or thing of which the first person had no direct experience. When submitted as evidence, such statements are called hearsay evidence. As a legal term, "hearsay" can also have the narrower meaning of the use of such information as evidence to prove the truth of what is asserted. Such use of "hearsay evidence" in court is generally not allowed. This prohibition is called the hearsay rule.
For example, a witness says "Susan told me Tom was in town". Since the witness did not see Tom in town, the statement would be hearsay evidence to the fact that Tom was in town, and not admissible. However, it would be admissible as evidence that Susan said Tom was in town, and on the issue of her knowledge of whether he was in town.
A witness is someone who has firsthand knowledge about a crime or significant event through his or her senses (e.g. seeing, hearing, smelling, touching) and can help certify important considerations about the crime or event. A witness who has seen the event first hand is known as an eyewitness. Witnesses are often called before a court of law to testify in trials.
A subpoena commands a person to appear. It is used to compel the testimony of a witness in a trial. Usually, it can be issued by a judge or by the lawyer representing the plaintiff or the defendant in a civil trial or by the prosecutor or the defense attorney in a criminal proceeding. In many jurisdictions, it is compulsory to comply, to take an oath, and to tell the truth, under penalty of perjury.

what floyd and tyler are saying is absolutely not hearsay, as they are saying they witnessed these things personally

Polyarmour said:You are right Barnyard, hearsay is not the right term.
The meaning I was trying to convey is that they are allegations rather than physical evidence. The fact that these allegations have often come from proven liars unfortunately diminishes the impact of the allegations.
