Vuelta de Chile 2011 - 28/01 to 06/02

This season back on the international UCI Amèrica Tour calendar after an absence of several years. Two 'mountain stages' are there, the third stage and the penultimate stage to Farell Ones (arrival uphill above 2000m).
recorridovueltadechile2.jpg

The organization hopes to welcome twenty teams, about half from abroad. They also try to participate two or three professional teams. So are they lobbying for Liquigas to line-up. The tour will start shortly after the Tour de San Luis, and so the chance probably for number of teams to do both, another is Androni Giocattoli. Liquigas Cannondale has a sponsor who has interests in both North and South America. If Liquigas is to departure, they will get permission from the UCI.

Teams of Colombia (Café de Colombia, Une EPM and GW-Shimano possible options), Brazil (Funvic/Pinda),USA, Canada and Argentinia.

Stages Confirmed:

28/01 - Prólogo, (10km) Arica-Morro
29/01 - 1° stage, (120km) Iquique
30/01 - 2° stage, (140km) Antofagasta
31/01 - 3° stage, (170km) Copiapó-Bahía Inglesa
01/02 - 4° stage, (135km) Pto. Montt-Osorno
02/02 - 5° stage, (160km) Valdivia-Temuco
03/02 - 6A stage, (17km) Concepción-Talcahuano

What about Movistar 2, do we think they could be a good bet for an entry? Or hell, even Movistar 1... the sponsor interests in South America might cause them to be in Argentina for San Luís...

Movistar 2+1 will be in San Luis with the new Team Kit, as the team will have the UCI license in time and is one of the 5+ Extranjenos

I did pretty much expect Movistar 2 to be in San Luís, my contemplation was more over whether Movistar 1 would be there too (as it is the biggest race in South America according to UCI classifications, even if realistically it isn't) - and ergo possibly in Chile. Though I expect Movistar 2 to be the only Movistars in Chile.
