Where the hell did that come from? I can't even remember the last time he cracked the top five of a world Cup
A while ago from memory; though he has form in Leogang in previous years, and on courses with lots of climbing he tends to do well; I remember him likely to win in Andorra a few years ago - and had tachycardia, so had to stop.

It's strange really, as I thought the 'old guard' were finally showing their age......and then 2 of them go and finish 1-2.

That would be last year. I thought that we were still talking about N1no.

Yah, first WC win at 34.

There must be a germ in the Specialized team truck!

Don't know what happened to Specialized; the women haven't been at it all season, but the men have had a dream start, even on Friday Blevins looked good.
They said there was no illness, but expected a 'drop off' in form......The other forum have suggested a tyre issue, as Specialized can't make a decent wet weather/ mud tyre.......

Koretzky simply stated that he didn't feel good at all and dropped out after 2 laps... Vidaurre started strong but after the crash he slipped quite a few places and couldn't move up - maybe he was hurting a bit, who knows.
Also, anything can happen in race conditions like this when you are riding in the middle of the field with the riders struggling around you... I wouldn't read much into it until next race and drop of form is BS imho since they were super strong on Friday. Blevins maybe just doesn't like it when there is a day off between XCC and XCO - it's real issue for some riders afaik. Also Leogang is quite specific course so some shift might be understandable...

Whilst Pidcock is racing on the road in Andorra, his 'new' bike, in Olympic livery, and Rockshox suspension, is actually in the Sram pits in Val di Sole - from Pinkbike.

The current XCC course at Val di Sole isn't as good as the early versions - it seems to be the current way to have as much close racing as possible - so any technical elements have been removed.

Nino without 10 on his jersey struggling... but not giving up - respect.

EDIT: Eventually finished 14th after the not ideal start... not bad I guess

Interesting podium:
1. Kossmann
2. Azzaro
3. Puntener

(Blevins 8th after initially started good but then faded away to 2nd 10 and coming back in the end, Cink 15th - slower start but worked up his way into 10th place but it cost him too much I guess so he faded in the end).

Not the podium most would have bet on, but fast guys none the less.

Congrats MVK!

What is the deal with Puntener's team? A few times during the coverage they mentioned "no team" and in the results its just blank where the others have a team and a bike listed.

He's not part of any team which officially bought a WC license from WBD - it's a WBD *** introduced this season. Weird no big Swiss team signed him - he's been regularly one of the best (if not the best) Swiss riders this season - I'm always rooting for him for that reason :)

Save the money on the $$ license.
