isn' there someone who can sprint better than him in holland?

No.

Either way, I'm not too sad about Gesink not doing the Worlds this year. There's no way he would win this year anyway, and now my hope is that the 9 guys who go there will get to be aggressive and attack and try to force things, which is the only way we even have a prayer of winning it.

Of course there is: TGTL!

Holland don't need a team if they have TGBM and TGTL! TGBM could just ride away with 50km to go and lap the field. It would be a demonstration of his greatness and such a greatness that cycling has never seen beffore!

I guess they'd done the same if Gesink was there, the difference being that we'd actually have someone who could be up there in the final.

Now, we'll just have to take Bobbie Traksel and do a rain dance.

Yeah, kind of disappointing IMO. But I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I just hope we're not going to end up with Karsten Kroon as our team leader, then we've lost the race before it even began.

That would be silly indeed. I suggest no leader at all. Just attack attack attack and see what happens. Probably nothing special for NL, but atleast make the stage as hard as possible so we don't end up with a bunch sprint and then were 100% sure we won't win :)

should be pretty mild. whilst freezing and rain is definitely possible at that time of year, stupidly hot is too.

The Melbourne to Warrnambool races uses most of the same course and is scheduled within about 2 weeks of the worlds date and we've seen pretty much every single type of weather event except snow in the last 10 years or so.

Theoretically, we are switching from years of El Nino effects to a La Nina event. That will bring with it higher overnight temps and a lot more rain than we have seen in the current drought.

Let's hope for it (probably the only way us Dutchies can really win ;) )

No way will it be hot. It's way too early in the season. Chances are it won't even make 25.

Wind & rain are MUCH more likely, especially wind.

How strong do you Dutchies want it to be?

25 centigrade? That's hot for Dutchies :p

Rain and wind, with Bobbie? As hard and as much as possible, perhaps a storm, like with Kuurne this year ;)

An interesting analogy occurred in the Vattenfall Cyclassic. Gilbert, Pozzato and Sagan made a break on the 16% Waseberg about 15km out from the finish and were reeled in exactly 6km later by a peloton headed by Cancellara.

That is sort of interesting, but it seemed like a bit of a half assed move, and Cancellara will have no reason to drag the peloton back in Geelong. Not that that means he definitely won't, but...

There are similarities between races and of course there are always differences. The Waseberg was only 700m long and only repeated 4 times and of course the race was much shorter. The Worlds course is much tougher. When the last major attack point is 6km+ from the finish (as in Geelong) it would have to be a very strong rider to stay away till the finish. Maybe Cancellara is one of the few who could pull off such a feat?

There is a strong possiblity you will get all of that in melbourne and even more likely in geelong!;)

I read yesterday that Victoria is having the wettest year since 1996. So chances are it will be wet.

On the upside October is supposed to be one of the drier months and forecasters are predicting a warmer drier spring than normal.

I hope it's as windy as hell though. That road to Geelong is a nightmare in the wind and could split things wide open.
