Robbie McEwen course preview 2010 World Cycling Championships
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpKArLtAiqU

The climb looks hard enough. Robbie spends quite a bit of time out of the saddle (although there are cuts in the film), and the last kick could knock some people back a bit. The second climb will at least pospone the chase. I think by number eleven the worse climbing sprinters will be shed, because the strongest three teams and others will all want to keep the pace high because Cav wins the sprint. Alternatively, a winning move will go away at some point and the sprinters won't make it.
I can't decide 100% though.
Anyone see Peter Sagan having a genuine chance to become World Champion, despite his age?

Nah I think that will be ppl way more skilled and experienced over there... maybe in some years but right now I don't think that he can make it... he can have a good ride but not enough to win...

anyone work out the number of places per team yet

With Greipel scoring points for Germany at Vattenfall and Thomas Leezer scoring points for the Netherlands, Germany will jump into the 8th spot and the Netherlands into 9th. Kazakstan will drop to 10th, getting the last 9-man team. Luxembourg will miss out in 11th. Other than that, the top 10 are unchanged as of the rankings available on http://www.uci.ch which are current as of the Tour de Pologne.

Fantastic video

22% at the top of the first hill! It's official, because Robbie's Polar meter says so. Just shows you how misleading those graphs can be.

Robbie's list of potential winners is nearly as long as the names mentioned in here. In other words... no-one knows. Looks like the course organisers have done a good job in designing a course that gives a wide variety of riding styles a fighting chance.

"Golden" opportunity for Fabian Cancellara to take the WC-double I think.

Providing that the speed is high and the field whittled down, he could make a "RvV 2010"-attack at the last climb and TT away from a smallish group.
Or a attack from a tired peloton in the final kilometres.

Suits him way better than Mendrisio where he was placed fifth. Not impossible to win both the road race and the ITT, but of course there is many contenders.

Still if I were to pick one victor it would be him (Gilbert, Haussler candidates also)!

Both Paris-Nice stages he won were around 155 km long. Obviously that doesn't mean he can't compete in longer races, he's already done it this season, but a WC is very, very long, and very, very hard.

Yeah the length could be an issue for a neo pro. I was meaning that he was definitely competitive with the guys with the bigger palmares'.

winds

The wind direction is always something to note. The decent down Pako st. might have a strong head wind. If this is the case those who broke away on the climbs could get caught before they turn right towards the finish.

I live around the corner from the first climb, not long but very steep, 11 times up that will hurt any human alot. At the bottom of the second climb they are building a brigde over the river that could be interesting. The entry to the bridge might be the most technical of the whole course.:D

I am looking forward to an epic race.

Thanks for that! I posted some google maps links of the climbs and the information on the length and gradient for people to have a look at.

Somebody said that they were not sure where to stand on the course. I am not sure either but the 2nd climb seems a good place as there is going to be a big screen at a near by park for people to watch the race so once the riders have gone you can run over to the park and see the finish.

t'was me. that sounds ok, ideally i'd rather stand on climb 1 though.

if i get a chance i'm goona go down and ride the circuit in the next couple weeks.

Gesink the big favourite for the win :D won't participate. He's gonna focus on giro di Lombardia.

I'm pretty sure he knows the WC course isn't made for him so he prefers to spare his energy. So just when NL secured 9 spots the big leader decided he won't go :)

Yeah, kind of disappointing IMO. But I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I just hope we're not going to end up with Karsten Kroon as our team leader, then we've lost the race before it even began.
