He made a case for selection with his uphill sprint win in the Eneco Tour. It's unfortunate.

Thought so too. I'm surprised. His form finally seemed to be coming back.

It's strange that such an icon of Aussie cycling doesn't get to ride a farewell Worlds, on home soil nonetheless.

I don't know how you can say this is unfair or not a good idea or whatever before knowing who got selected. I do think right now Renshaw is faster than McEwen, and Davis might be a better pick for this course.

I just thought it was a shame. I don't know who has been selected or why. I'm not so sure Renshaw is faster than McEwen, though. i think he might be a little overrated, but it's hard to tell when he always leads out.

Lets see the final selection for Aussies and based on that I would critize this desicion... but I'm not happy with it...

No McEwan for worlds?Thats O.K.Renshaw will be there to lead out Haussler or Davis if this race finishes in a sprint....Otherwise Gerrans to counter the late attacks from Belgium and Spain.

I don't care who's selected for Australia, I just know Robbie deserves a spot as one out of 9(!) no matter who's selected after what he has done for Australian cycling through the years. And after that win in ENECO? WTF...!

Blaxland, Renshaw is a worse climber than mcewen. He will be no way near it. This is a tough course and mcewen was showing good form and if it kept on improving he would of been right up there. Davis I doubt will get selected. Gerrans doesn't have the punch imo to go with gilbert and some of the spainiards and italians.

As a non-Aussie to me it looks crazy. If there's one man who can motivate himself for this race it's Robbie. And he's showing it to the selectors right now. I mean the Italians are famous for bad decisions when it comes to their worlds teams, but Austraila?

Bottom line is: Australia gets to pick 9 riders and they can't find a spot for Robbie who must have the most wins of every rider from Australia through all times..? Whoever picked this team can't have his heart in the right place... And I'm not even Australian but this really ....es me off...

I was thinking this is a Haussler or Friere course. I don't think anyone can get away and stay away without some luck. I don't think the purest of pure sprinters can make the finish, if the tactic of some teams is to dump them. In some ways, for those teams the worse thing they could do is get in an early break.

Agree re Renshaw(Cant Climb)but neither can McEwan just cause he finaly wins a stage this season doesnt give him a spot on the worlds team....Personally the only sprinters i would have on the team are A.Davis and H.Haussler.Regaurdless of past records."This race will not finish in a bunch Gallop"

Unless I'm forgetting someone, I'd have thought McEwen and/or O'Grady would be included as captains on the road regardless of recent results.

But how can you rate Davis > McEwen..! I just don't get it. And Haussler, yeah he's great but he hasn't raced since Switzerland, what kind of form is he gonna be in?

McEwans bread and butter is Belguim racing. The Austrailians should not select their riders over a course of past results. But look at the course figure out the main contenders and select accordingly. It seems a costal windy route. Do any you guys/gals know what the prevailing winds are along that route? I assume onshore winds?

Fair enough comeback. But realisticly I would say a bunch of about 30 riders max....Not to many pure sprinters their if that becomes reality.Haussler,Freire Maybe?

I believe its a decision based on wanting to rip the bunch to shreds> If McEwan rides we can't push the pace to get rid off the sprinters now instead we will have another rider to set the tempo.

Cavendish and Co will not make it to the line, we will make sure of it.

robbie spent his whole life riding for his country and CA wont give him the respect he deserves by letting him see out his career on home soil

absolutely disgusting decision

+1 ...... yes Australia's best chance may be with a Haussler or even Cadel but who know's what is going to happen on the day and it needs as many options as possible (especially ones that don't need lead out trains) and McEwen's form has really been building.

NB I can't see Cav not riding just because there is a fair chance the out and out sprinters won't be there at the end.

Now if Davis is in, and not Robbie, I will really see red!

At the end of the day, do you want to honour a cyclist or win the race.

Robbie in the team means one less workhorse to set it up for someone else. Robbie has no chance to win so why take away a powerful rider for someone who will probably pull out half way through and not contribute at all?
