My vote goes clean to La Vuelta 2023.

During and just post this year's edition of Tour of Denmark I stated that it couldn't possible get worse speaking professionalisme as goes both organization and TV production.

RCS apparently took serious notes of my statement.
They have left the peleton in the dust for good and sweeps all three podium places.

It's a real pity Kuss' gap isn't a little larger. If he had four minutes right now I would give him a decent chance to pull it off. I think we shouldn't underestimate just how much Vingegaard and Roglic will be able to kill the pace on mountain stages once all leaders are isolated. But right now the gap is so small that with the TT still to come Remco (and the UAE boys for that matter) will probably overtake him even if none of the big mtf's are raced very hard.

So with that in mind, I'm sticking with Roglic. Evenepoel won a stage and is in front of both pre race Jumbo leaders but he still really hasn't impressed me. Him dropping on stage 6 and clearly struggling again today makes me very doubtful he can match Roglic and Vingegaard next weekend and that doesn't even take into account his inferior team. That might be something you can deal with on one climb stages like this week, but stages were his lack of mountain support will cause trouble for him are coming fast.

Remco to die by a thousand cuts like Pog before him. JV is too strong. I voted Vingo, but if JV wants to let the chips fall in any way as long as the team wins, Rog has a big shot.

The real intrigue for me is the Mas, Ayuso, Almeida, Caruso and a few who will fight to get a good placing, maybe a podium and look like real GT contenders moving forward. So far, they are pretenders hyped up by their respective fan bases. Can one of them actually strike? Be an eagle taking what he wants instead of a vulture taking what he can?

I hope that Lenny Martinez is in the top-10, not 8th, he can't be The New Martin.

If Sepp Kuss wins, I will finally change my Chris Horner avatar.
So now it's Kuss the Knucklehead?

(....uh oh, dunno if I got the wrong friends now? :p)

I consider myself impartial.
I love Kuss.
I love The Butterfly Effect channel.
I love cycling.
I love diverse perceptions and different opinions.
(but it seems some strong opinions here - either you're with us or against us - but like the great enthusiasm here, too :D)

RCS?

We did not learn too much until now. Remco and Roglic good, vinge not tdf but also good. If vinge improves the best for him is still to come. I hope he can, but I actually think he will not. Mas also up there in the climbs, but TT and some descent somewhere will kill his chances. Looking forward to ayuso in the high mountains. Kuss will not hold on, although that would be amazing to see.
Hoping for a great battle and a bernal stage win!

Kuss and Vinge spotted trying to flee in a plane

Of course, this being the Vuelta things had to go wrong -
https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...m-after-plane-is-unable-to-land-in-valladolidand
Between stage end of stage 9 in Caravaca de la Cruz and Valladolid which will host stage 10, there are about 500 kilometers in distance. Hence the Vuelta a Espana organizers provided two charter planes to transport the riders, but one could not make it to the destination.

One of the two planes, which departed only 15 minutes after the first one, could not land in Valladolid due to torrential rain, wind and a lightning storm. This caused a new unexpected logistical nightmare for the race organizers who have already had to neutralize two stage finales - and face dark conditions in the early team time-trial. The plane had to be redirected to Madrid, and then be followed by a three-hour bus ride back to Valladolid.

“After a diversion we arrived in Madrid. It is now midnight and we still have a few hours to go to Valladolid. This is karma, I think. Airplane movements in a Grand Tour will no longer be of this time in 2023," Romain Bardet wrote, as a few riders shared the inconvenient incident on social media. The race is being given no break and even on the rest day the riders face big challenges.

The mind says that Roglic will win this bike race:
  • Remco has a weak team and has moments of weakness (for whatever reason / excuse, he has them last year as well as this year).
  • Vingegaard could be winning as well but only if Roglic fails. I feel Vingegaard rides like he's a back-up plan for Roglic, so he will not go for the win himself if Roglic is the leader, and he necessary, he would even work for Roglic.
  • Ayuso... Unknown but logic dictates he will just fall short and comes 3rd or 4th.

The heart says that either Kuss, Ayuso or Remco win.
  • Kuss: everybody would be happy if he wins this. Even the competition. He deserves this after all he has done. And it would be an incredible win and story.
  • Ayuso: He's an upcoming talent, from Spain, exciting to watch, great bike handling and descending...
  • Remco: I wouldn't mind if he doesn't win and just finished on the podium after a good fight, but I would like him to win in a way that he shows / proves he can tackle Jumbo in the mountains (like Tourmalet), so we have a very promising fight next year in the Tour.

I don't mind if Vingegaard wins, but as with Roglic, I think it's better for the sport if they don't win as they already won enough this year. Winning 3 grand Tours in one year is a display of domination that I just don't like to see in bike racing. We've been treated by displays of force by (too) strong teams like Jumbo, Team Sky, US Postal, Gewiss, Mapei, and they didn't leave good memories most of the times.

SQS and Jumbo were (ofcourse) on the 'on time' plane.
I wonder if there were favourites / GC candidates on the diverted plane...?

The irony is that just going by car would have resulted in an arrival time of around 1AM (now they arrived around 3AM) at the hotels in Valladolid...

What. Have. You. Done.

This is the perfect excuse that any fanbase seeks for a bad result in the ITT .

https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...id-central-spain-after-heavy-rain-2023-09-04/
"Emergency services were involved in almost 1,200 incidents in the region overnight and firefighters and police were seeking two missing men in the rural area of Aldea del Fresno, southwest of Madrid, said Javier Chivite, the spokesperson of the emergency services in the region.

Several roads in the Madrid region were closed as half a dozen bridges were torn down by water overflowing the riverbanks.

The sudden torrential rain that hit the country transformed streets into rivers in Madrid, Castile, Catalonia and Valencia regions. Hail also fell in many areas."

We're getting all the plagues of Egypt in the Vuelta - there's just locusts, lice and frogs to come, if I remember correctly.

Kuss would be hard to leverage regardless, I wouldnt be so defensive of his lead
