The psychological dynamic is interesting.

In both the Landis and Hamilton cases Armstrong was "active" behind the scenes ensuring they were snared.

When caught he was telling them to "fight" so not only did they lose their title but their careers, money, families, everything.

The additional dynamic in regards to Hamilton's ex-wife is particularly sick.

What was also confirmed for me is that the UCI's use of anti-doping is not for anti-doping but "control". By allowing doping but controlling the riders through anti-doping will never set them free. By having Hamilton test positive the UCI clearly doesn't about the sports image. They just like to control who tests positive.

Sad. There seems to be a growing and stronger coordinated movement in the media from Lance supporters to immediately support or attack anything on Lance. The reactions are immediate and really strong.

Travis will be fine. People will recognize him for his intelligence, integrity, and commitment to an important cause.

Now it becomes interesting if A) because of the doping but also B) forcing other competitors to get caught meaning he knew he was going to win and collect the bet.

That's fraud. A lot of sports don't allow the players to bet on themselves maybe cycling still does.

That was the first thing I thought of, there trying to squash some **** and it's more severe than them taking the reported $125,000 bribe and letting Armstrong get away with it to bring more notoriety to cycling as am marketable representative with a good story.

This seems like the sort of thing they would do beyond just taking a massive, direct cash bribe.

I would guess they would have to create a pseudonym or something.

I was always intrigued to what was in it for the UCI for Armstrong to continue winning. Armstrong was the one making money not the UCI but with this "arrangement" a few investors could quickly turn 100k into a million of non-taxed income - gambling winnings in Europe are not taxed if it's not your profession.

This is, in fact, old news published a week ago. Nonetheless it is very interesting.

Essentially it is a lawyer from SCA, in Montreal, discussing this "insurance" as a kind of gambling in sports. He points to the recent revelations that Lance may have been informed or tipped off in advance regarding testing.

Clearly the SCA is building and rebuilding their case against Lance to have their money returned (including court costs).

More interesting, in Europe gambling like this as an athlete is illegal and the authorities usually do not take this lightly.

More interesting times for Lance developing.

It would still not be a huge dent in his bank account, but it will also not be the only one.

Plus their own legal costs. It is reasonable to conclude that the first time around SCA's legal costs were as large as Armstrong's. They would not be entitled to interest on the $5M up to the settlement like Armstrong, so that would be around an additional two million.

$5M + 2.5M + 2M + 4M + interest + legal costs [+ penalty?] = settle for $10M

I still don't see how the settlement agreement would not have boilerplate in it making the deal final.

Don't assume Ullrich was not getting the same treatment as Armstrong. Having Ulle as Armstrong's foil was good for business.

It's a possibility, but we have yet to see any evidence pointing in that direction.

Forget about who won during these years. They were all losers and deservedly so.

They all had the option of leaving. They stayed and doped. No winners.
