Actually, that is in keeping with most clinic threads. The usual progression is:
1) An actual event that is reported by journalists who are not anonymous. (Note that this excludes people who spend their days making things up or those who like to post unsubstantiated rumors)
2) Actual facts and responses by the applicable parties, reported in the press, that can be discussed in a rational manner.
3) No new information for a period of more than a few days or so. The usual suspects, in lieu of actual information, shift gears into speculation mode, which by definition (in the clinic) is usually a wish list.
4) Irrelevant and acrimonious posts that tend to lead to forum "vacations" for one or more forum members.
5) The occasional vortex.
6) More factual information reported by journalists who are not anonymous.
7) Wash, rinse, repeat.
If this were only true, there would be little to discuss.
The truth is more like there are many ill-informed or distortion prone (hello Phil & Paul) 'journalists' who may even be directly involved monetarily, promote or follow the hype, and cater to their advertisers, that echo the distorted PR story.
There are some good intentioned souls with good web sites that know the real story, but need the advertising revenue too badly to comment on doping whatsoever.
This is not new with Lance, nor was it true with Landis, but both stories offer good examples.
These journalists are joined by a very extremely zealous fanatics who fit the literal description in every sense of the word. Think '
Trust But Verify' as a great example of zenophobic over-the-top blindness. In the end, it proved to be an even greater yarn than Floyd's own FFF fund-raising endeavor.
The 'award' and 'distinction' winning trustbut site claims to have 'closed' in December 2008. Yet, the web fees continue to be paid and the site is still live. In the almost four years since December 2008 there has not been one single mea culpa comment even though Floyd had revealed all since that time.
The best part of these 'arguments' is that they purport a 'balanced view'.
Yes, it is a fully balanced one-sided viewpoint. trustbut even has a request for anyone that want to provide a counter-argument. Odd that nobody ever took up that offer, especially when 20/20 hindsight and Floyd's own admissions reveal the ultimately comical bias at TBV:
"TBV tried to be objective, making reference to all points of view. It's intended to be useful for folks of all persuasions."
Right...
TBV should be commended for a rare instance of balance when it incorporated one of my posts as an anonymous forum contributor. That post, however, provided multiple citations on scientific studies that had demonstrated the benefits of using Testosterone for endurance sports such as cycling. Wouldn't an unbiased viewpoint already have done the requisite Google searching to uncover this?
There are a precious few solid journalists that can offer an oasis in the hot air of massive distortion. Unfortunately, they often wait until there is a very strong, completely verifiable story from multiple parties before they actually write anything. While this diligence is commendable, their reporting often lags the real story by a considerable amount of time.
Thus, we are left with a few honest souls here (mostly) and there that have a few leads and connections, keep track of the data, and/or can see the obvious for its blinding obviousness.
RR has already pointed out his 'news breaking' on the JB 'interview'. He has provide many, many other first reports. Similarly, I am pretty sure that I was the first to post from Lance's SCA deposition, among others. Then (on another forum) we had multiple experts posting 'anonymously' on the veracity of test data, etc.
What is interesting is that a few such folks can keep track of the extensive background on this case and often supply a much deeper insight than can be offered by even those few journos who have not been drinking the Koolaid.
The true sniping begins when the paid-for or misguided shills try and undermine these efforts.
Kind of like the dismissive post that has been quoted here.
