In the last four years, out of 7 GTs he raced, he finished on the podium six times while winning two. I am still amazed that people underestimate Nibali.

:p exactly so.
And just wait, even after he wins a TdF, there will be something forgettable about the race, competition, whatever...the win will get downgraded

Has this amazing photo been posted before? Vincenzo and, I presume, his little brother Antonio.

Based on what?

Based on common sense. Come on, don't you see Quintana and Froome are better than him?

There are to much Nibali fanboys around here. Top class rider, but 3th place is max for him, if Quintana and Froome are in.

Nibali in a stage were Froome is alone for over a 100km.. yea he would have been sitting quietly in the peloton... Crosswind. Yea he would have been sitting quietly in the peloton...

Froome would have countered him, no problem at all.

Yes ofc. He didn't follow the saxo train because he wanted to give little alberto some hope, not because he wasn't able to..
Some fans are so blind when it comes to their heroes

Good view, i also think the same way:)

I don't know if you think Alberto is my hero? But i can tell you, that's not the case, way not.

talking about Froomester. Point is that time is without a shadow of a doubt possible to take out of both Froome and Quintana on different types of stages, + ofc to underestimate Nibalis climbing skills even after 2013 is... weird to say the least.

Nibali has said himself that he knows he can give Froome a run for his money on the mountain. I don't see a major problem for TdF here. With some good tactics, strong team and of course luck it is doable in these types of stages. The problem is in the TT, 54 Km is a bit much.

I don't underestimate his climbing skills. But he showed that in the Giro, where he had competition from Uran, Evans and Scarponi. That's just not the level of Quintana, Froome, Purito and Valverde. In the Vuelta, he was beaten by Horner, who i think is one of the best climbers of the world, but if you won't to beat Froome in the Tour, you have to do it better in that Vuelta.

I think Nibbles is together with Purito the 3rd best climber in the world, but not good enough to follow Froome and Quintana all the way in the mountains in the Tour.

Yet you ignored how he spanked Piti and Purito in that same Vuelta ;)

Then again it is impossible to disregard the fact that both Spaniards rode the Tour full gas. While Nibali was building up towards a second peak of the season, the Vuelta was the third peak for Purito &co.

Yep, both Purito and Piti were totally exhausted by the end of the season after being in form during most of it.

Or how did Lombardia go?

Nibali was supposed to be better, but he decided to crash in both the Worlds and Lombardia. He could've won those if he'd stayed on his bike.

He didn't follow the Saxo train because he was a little behind in the peloton when the split occured leaving Contador in the group ahead.

Echelons are about positioning, and while Froome's positioning wasn't good enough at that stage to keep Contador at bay, it was good enough to ensure that any group that got away would only be getting a small advantage.

Froome makes that mistake again next year, maybe he loses another minute, but the way he rode that stage in this years Tour in no way indicates that he can lose any more than that sort of margin, and in the mountains he can get twice that back on any given stage.

In the end the echelon stage probably helped froome more than it hurt him. Contador was working himself, on one of the hardest stages of the race, while Froome sat back in slipstream all day. When the Ventoux stage came 2 days later, that extra bit in the tank could have been worth more than the minute Contador gained on the flat (not to mention his team).
