Thanks for the view of your fantasy, in terms of your view on 'palmares'. Some could look at racing results over the past 5 years and conclude Contador is past his prime and declining.

Declining and distancing Nibali going at 50 % in this Tour !

What? Dude you're merely pouring oil on the already blazing fire. Just stop.

Did Nibali ever beat Contador on a simple MTF ? Nope.
Who was the strongest since the start of this season? Contador. Yep, he is strongely declining. And hell yeah, his palmarès is much better indeed, it'll still get much bigger, don't worry about it, you have no place to judge Contador's palmarès & career :)

Nibz dropped Horner, what a miracle. Papy isn't in half of the form he had in the Vuelta 13'. People will soon get excited about Nibali dropping Greipel on a MTF. Go ahead. At any rate, Nibali already won all his GTs against 2nd tier fields, it's not the first time . Let him keep it like that

Exactly, when is AC's last win at the Tour? Freaking 2009. Period.

I originally thought that Nibali would have lost out to Froome and Contador had they not crashed out and they where both about the same time behind as Contador after the cobbles, but my view now is that even if he only had a minute advantage after stage 5 he would be the favourit of the 3, impossible to tell but I dont think Contador (or Froome in a similar situation) would have taken that advantage the near 3 minutes back.

Nibali should go to Spain and prove he can beat Froome. He has not been pushed here.
No doubt he will go on Holiday and dodge doing that too soon.

He wouldn't dare !

Froome in 2012 was super strong in the tour, by the final week of the Vuela he was suffering from over racing and finished 4th, it would be the same for Nibali after the tour. He does not have to proove anything.

Not sure anyone could pull a Giro-TDF these days without the kind of GC crashes we've seen in the past few weeks. obviously, it would be an awesome feat though.

Maybe as it stands, but everyone's luck runs out sometime. I always feel bad for those doing the Tour-Vuelta. That seems worse for some reason, maybe because the recoup time is shorter than at the other option (which i am actually not sure of and too lazy to google--- just my perception).

I think LBL, Lombardia he has a very good shot at those, maybe a tough MSR.
The problem with LBL and MSR is that you need to peak for those, not easy to fit in the calendar.
RVV and especially P-R I don't think suit him, even if he showed the can ride cobbles quite well.

A tough Worlds he can win as he showed last year.

Obviously not saying he WILL win them all, but wouldn't it be awesome to have a Tour winner focus on getting a career 'grand slam' of our nine big events rather than just peaking for the TdF and maybe Giro? MSR has its new climb which will make it harder, and anyway Nibs has made final selection there before. Ronde and Roubaix are of course the hardest for him because he's not so explosive but we're overdue some wet April classics which could give him a help. I just hope he doesn't feel he still has unfinished business at the Tour because of the way it's gone this month, he's a better all round rider than that.

Agree, would love for Nibali to go back to the non tour focus approach again.

I hope to see him at Lombardia this year already.

His dream was to win the Giro, I'm not sure if Le Tour will take that place in his heart even if it will be the biggest achievement of his career. He loves the Italian monuments and I'm sure he wants to win LBL. So maybe now, that he will enter the select group of winners of all GTs he'll get back to Giro next year and ride the classics. But of course he is employed by Astana and they might have different ideas.

Tour is still the biggest race in the world, i hope he can target Tour for two more years then comes 100th Giro, then retire.

I was always under the impression that for Italians the Giro is as important as the Tour. That might be changing with globalization and the global sports media might nudge him to focus solely on defending the Tour title. I don't think Nibbles will be happy about skipping the Giro two years in a row though. That's probably some of the motivation behind the Giro/Tour double talk we have been hearing.

Pantani being a rare exception? I've heard plenty saying he would have chosen Tour over Giro.

Back on topic: I'd love Nibali to focus on classics from now on. He should consider racing RVV.

nah, he will keep focusing on GT especially he has unfinished business with AC and CF.

If Basso could (almost) do it in '05 and '06 I don't see why Nibali shouldn't go for Giro-Tour next year.

Doing the Giro means decreasing his chances to win the Tour significantly. Might be what he wants; the only way of preserving the illusion his best is as good as F's and C's is to not be at his best from now on when he faces them.

I hope he skips the Giro.
